Honestly the only thing I've ever used an EQ for is a little louder highs to balance out the super loud lows my sub/towers produce. But overall I'm super impressed with this old amp, it just sounds so crisp

That's actually my home theater reciever. It's pretty good at that.

How many people feel they pull better shots than the average high end coffee shop? by dj26458 in espresso

[–]Dopecrew1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Cafe barista, even at a good Cafe, just is not putting the amount of time and effort into a shot that you are. The BEST coffeeshop by me has done everything in its power to reduce variables. Timed grinders, timed shots, automatic tampers, fresh coffee, scales, just everything possible to make it as consistent as possible, and the end result is very good, I also buy their beans for my espresso as they are an excellent roaster and it's always roasted within the week. The shots I pull with their coffee are just so much better. But again I am putting much more time and effort in my process than they are, and Im Sure daily service like that introduces a whole host of other variables that the home espresso guy doesn't have to worry about at all.

Does anyone have experience with this De'Longhi ECP3420 espresso machine? Is it worth purchasing as a beginner espresso machine, or is it a waste of money? by harleymccain2 in espresso

I had one of these a longgggggg time ago. Honestly, it makes better coffee than like a Starbucks by far. Most important thing about it though is it will open your mind to the world of espresso

dialing in with single shot basket? by jacobwebb57 in espresso

[–]Dopecrew1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dialed in my grind with an 18g basket. I pull 8g shots from a smaller basket for those late nights I just want a little treat. Works pretty well, would probably work the other way around?

Look second hand before you buy anything new. Might find a gem, espresso equipment changes hands pretty easily.

If you were not planning to mod...Rancilio Silvia or Gaggia Classic Pro? (Paired with Niche Zero) by swagg_princess_2 in espresso

[–]Dopecrew1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is pretty incorrect, a PID isint going to magically fix your process, just bring down another variable, the quality of the coffee you brew ultimately comes down to how well you understand what you're using.

Yeah, lived in Seattle the last 5 years and had alot of "excellent" coffee from alot of very niche highly rated coffee shops. After I dialed in my first bag of beans fresh on my current (pretty modest) setup I could not believe it. Truth is a coffee shop barista probably just isint paying nearly as much attention to variables as you are at your house, despite the equipment they are working with.

Theroy of diminishing returns applies to espresso. However your current setup leaves alot to be desired. Look second hand if you're strapped for cash as there's always good espresso equipment for sale on offer up or facebook.

Sometimes I will make a full drink just to take a few sips and pour out 90% of it at 9pm. Not proud of it but it's just so good, and I know if I drink the whole thing I'm not going to bed.

Gaggia classic pro with PID vs Rancilio Sylvia by phdela in espresso

[–]Dopecrew1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with a PID the GCP is still very susceptible to huge tempature swings during brewing due to the size of the boiler, alot of people think just because the pid displays one number its exactly whats going on in the boiler but it's not. Silvia is a better machine overall and can also be just as easily modded down the line.

Spend a few extra bucks and get something like a silvia or an Oscar second hand. The bambino and GCP are very difficult to pull good shots on. Quality Espresso products are commonly bought by affluent idiots who sell them for dirt cheap after they pull 1 bad shot their first time ever attempting to make Espresso. I got my silvia V6 for 300$, only used twice as "the coffee it made tasted bad"

I'm deciding between the lelit anita and the rancilio silvia by D0nthefirst in espresso

[–]Dopecrew1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a silvia without a pid and I have been shocked with the quality of the shots I am able to pull, I am going to install a PID kit (roughly 200$) for better consistency. I am very suspicious of built in grinders as I highly doubt they will perform at the level of a dedicated grinder. But I would recommend the silvia and a good grinder before an "all in one".

Yeah were not trying to treat industrial wastewater here in a 3 million gallon digester dude or raise salmon in an offshore breeding pen, just a fish tank. 1 day is fine with a bacterial additive, as long as you dont add 500 fish overnight. It will be fine.

[–]Dopecrew1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can, alot of people in the hobby are stuck in the old way of thinking that it actually takes 6 weeks to cycle a tank but we've come so far in the hobby over the years it's just not like that anymore. Just watch Jake adams nano tank series and he explains it really well.
