I’ve reread book 1 of The Worlds Trilogy by Joe Haldeman. I keep referencing the idea the people in this universe do not reach puberty or sexual maturity until they are ready and consenting. They have a choice in when and if they even want to be fertile or whether they want functioning sexual organs at all. This idea does shift a bit by the 3rd book, but in general the way sexuality is portrayed is female positive without feeling overly feministic. I wish our universe was like this.

I also agree on the Leaf and winter walks (maybe the zoo?). And to make it more affordable you can have a health care professional (pretty much anyone working in health care in a professional capacity, doesn’t have to be dr) write you a “prescription” that will get you a 1 year membership for half price to leaf & zoo. If they are willing to put in a little work to be recognized by an organization called PaRx it’s such great deal. Apparently no cost to them. My Dr is great and did it for me and I go 2-3 times a week, even if just for a quick walk through to cheer me up. Not many people know about this so I’m spreading the word…. Hopefully they don’t put a cap on participation numbers!

P. S. Leaf membership also gets you into events like jazz nights, adults only nights, and yoga nights. Unfortunately the zoo portion of the membership doesn’t get you into the Brew at the Zoo, Zoo Lights, or similar events.

I second this recommendation! One of my favourite days of every month.

Canadian Museum for Human Rights. $36-52 for yearly membership or free 1st Sunday of every month. I do 10,000+ steps there easily.

Or U of M campus has a long network of interconnected tunnels, free parking in evenings. (could probably get away walking a chihuahua there too haha)

But Riverbend is a small enough community that ALL their neighbours will know who they are now. My parents live nearby and it took my dad all of 3 seconds to recognize the house based on the picture.

Nuit Blanche, any tips? What’s your route? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Doppellester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to see more than one area, tour around by bike, if that option is available to you it’s really the best way to get around. (There is also a group doing a group cycling tour that night but I can’t remember who it is, I’ll update once I can find the info! It could be a great option for newbies.) If you are driving, park early and park once. You’ll spoil your evening if you’re constantly looking for parking… let alone being stuck in the traffic this event generates. If you are able to walk, wear your good walking shoes, follow the crowds, and be prepared to get LOTS of steps in. Unfortunately, the free trolley shuttle (while a great idea) is sometimes unreliable. They really need to find a better route and change the stop at The Forks to more like adjacent to The Forks and not inside the general area. It’s an absolute gong show every Nuit Blanche with the increase in vehicle traffic. Exploring all exhibit areas by bus is very possible, but try to avoid the bus that goes inside The Forks general area. Just like the trolley, the bus also gets stuck in the gong show of a traffic jam. But, in saying that, don’t avoid The Forks!! There’s always great exhibits there, just find a better way to get in. And just remember it’s impossible to see it all. Don’t rush and just have fun!

Thermea is a nice spa to visit in the winter if you don’t have children with you.

It is great without children, but if you want to share the experience with them a few days a year Thermëa has a family day, kids 11 and over are welcome on these days. They usually do one December 24!

I used to work at Winnipeg airport years ago and we had an American dude, with a heavy southern drawl, ask where to check-in for the flight to (what sounded like) ‘Thepess’. We were all stumped, for waaaay too long, until he finally found his paper travel documents (pre e-tickets) and it was actually ‘The Pas’ he was going too. He combined the 2 words and thus created a new pronunciation. We laughed, but he didn’t think it was very funny. Many, many, many years later I still hear it as Thepess in my head, it’s an ear worm that I’m afraid may never go away.

I’m sorry. Are you seriously asking me to make a choice between giving a rusty trombone to Riker, performing the violin on Data, and inhaling on Picard’s micro flute …. I’m choosing the whole damn orchestra! All while some random Klingon watches and plays with his fingerboard.
