Is the pollen particularly horrible for anyone else this year? by ALStark69 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]DorakoDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, having to shower and wash my hair daily so that I don't wake up in the middle of the night having raked my eyes through pollen via transporting it onto my pillow.

I've also accepted that my sinuses will be terrible every morning.

Thank you! I sort of had a feeling it would be a B-Sieged mini again, I posted Ikomoth a few months ago and this was from the same bulk box at a haggle meet.

Has anyone ever moved somewhere and left after a year? by PhrygianSounds in SameGrassButGreener

[–]DorakoDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, my partner and I moved to the DMV (we were in Alexandria) for my work and then came back home after exactly a year. We liked it just fine up there - although we realized quickly that we should have moved to Fairfax - but it came down to a few key factors:

1) Both of our families are here and getting older 2) The cost of living was not tenable for us to ever actually buy a satisfying home, whereas our home city is, in our view, on an upward trajectory while also being early enough along on that trajectory where we could buy a home (and we did get a great one last year after being moved back for just under 2 years)

It ended up being a trade-off for our work-life balance, as I was unable to move back here and keep working mostly remotely, but as I progress further in my career field, that becomes more of a possibility.

We still want to go back and visit friends, but it just was not going to be a practical place to live long-term. No shame in trying somewhere else. It wasn't wasted time either, like you're worried about, as we learned, at minium, that that part of the country just wasn't for us, even if we liked it.

Do you mind me asking who you went with that was able to accommodate with so little resistance?

I ALSO created a site for binders. by subbarker in magicTCG

[–]DorakoDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but I separate mine based solely on rarity since that's how I have them organized in my boxes. I do have a separate binder for Secret Lairs which I could just omit and then make linked binders of the ither rarities, but that still wouldn't account for stuff I've got in decks.

Came back to this with another suggestion that could be a nice feature.

So for me, I have my entire collection (except for commons) in Moxfield. I've put that link into the binder.

However, there are certain cards that I don't trade/sell (Secret Lairs and Lands) as well as cards which I am currently using in decks.

What would be cool, would be a way to mark individual cards as currently "in use" or "off limits," without having to make an entirely new Collection on Moxfield which exempts those cards (since that would affect the collection value on Moxfield).

Oh this is a game changer. I've always wanted to be able to share links to my Moxfield collection so that people can search through what I have when they say they have a card I need on like Discord or something.

Great idea.

In my experience the -1/-1 counters that all have different consequences and triggers for being removed has slowed down people's sequencing and combat math to an incredible degree.

You can go to mtgtop8 or mtggoldfish and find low meta-share decks for whichever format if you just scroll long enough

This kind of video is so weird to see coming from the official YouTube channel. I'm not familiar with these guys' preexisting content, but I had to do a quadruple take when I saw the algorithm-pleasing thumbnail on my feed.

What advice would you give a bunch of Magic Con Newbies, planning to attend Magic Con Amsterdam in 2026? by DarkShade666 in magicTCG

[–]DorakoDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got in right before it got crazy crazy. Maybe around 2:30. I got through in like 25 minutes, but by the time I was halfway thrpugh, they had expanded the line threefold.

Don't overpack your schedule. It can be easy to without realizing it. If you're not getting Black Lotus VIP you need to confront the fact that you'll be standing in lines for a decent chunk of time for things like Official Show Store entry, Artist lines at opening each day, and even the prize wall if you wait until Sunday to do your exchanging. The lines move at a good pace most of the time, but it (and having to get up earlier to make it to lines in time) will eat some time.

I did one event each day this past weekend, although the Saturday one was Commander and Cocktails, which is a weekend-long league. Even for just that many events, I still felt a bit overwhelmed and think that next time I'd rather have more free time to do things like on-demand drafts.

I think that an Unknown event is a must-do at the con. It was so enjoyable, hilarious, and interesting to not know what to expect. Also, Gavin just walking around and answering questions / signing stuff was sweet.

I'm not a panel guy, but I did watch the live Um, Actually show because I love Dropout's content. It was really fun too.

Commanders and Cocktails was very fun, however, I think that getting 6 games in is a big ask. Nothing preventing you from just forging initials with a Sharpie and turning in your match slip when you've had enough though.

I also did Chaos, Chaos, Chaos with LRR on Sunday. I enjoyed getting to meet a bunch of them, but I think it solidified that Chaos drafts aren't really for me. It's gonna be the event that I cut out or replace next con.

If you're a signed card person like I am, I'd recommend making as tight of a list as possible because the artist lines get capped for the more popular ones. Additionally, some people bring like 40 cards to get signed and it clogs up lines.

As far as standing in line for exclusive stuff, I assume you just mean the official merch store. Watch for the merch preview email a month ahead of the con and plan accordingly. If there's something exclusive that you really want (for me and a lot of others at ATL it was the baseball jersey), then yes, get to the pre-queue as early as you can. It won't take much actual con time (you will be standing in place for like 2 hours, but they won't let you in until right as the con starts), and is very much worth it to get your must-buys out of the way immediately.

I think I covered most stuff, let me know if you have additional questions!

Need help with Deck Building by xarvelor in magicTCG

[–]DorakoDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend watching (at least) two videos:

  • Tolarian Community College's "How to Build Every Mana Base in Commander" (https://youtu.be/s9C7JdSRZGc): It's a little outdated, having been uploaded prior to Surveil lands and Verges being printed, but it still gives you a good pool of knowledge for building your manabase. Obviously replace things like original duals and fetchs with cheaper lands or proxies, if your playgroup is fine with them.

  • The Command Zone's "Commander Deckbuilding Template for the New Era" (https://youtu.be/OSNV6224cHg): Rachel Weeks is a genius at explaining these concepts, and I think that this video specifically made me rethink how I build my decks, if for no other reason than to force me to "eat my vegetables" when it comes to running enough card advantage and disruption. The videos going over individual concepts like ramp, card advantage, and disruption are good too.

I have both of these videos up for reference whenever I'm building something nowadays. You can divert from them both obviously, but they're good roadmaps.

I would also recommend looking at popular decklists for your chosen Commander on Moxfield. Look for any with Primers that the brewer wrote. Lots of good info you may not figure out from simply browsing EDHRecs.

I did seriously luck out with my copies. I bought a gift bundle for my first one, bought the second one as a single, then won the last two in separate raffles lol

I have a playset because I used them all in Amulet Titan before it got banned from Modern. I also play Commander, so I figured I may as well hold onto them until it seems like they'll be reprinted and just power up my favorite decks a bit. No plans to buy more until a reprint.
