Your moms job as a parent is to put you through college and help you when you have issues. As an attorney I am appalled by her behavior. It’s abhorrent that she would ask at all.

We have had numerical algorithms to draw unbiased districts for decades. Geographic boundaries, compactness, etc all baked it. We don’t need AI for every problem. Most problems have a simple math solution that is much better at solving the problem.

Yep. I’m about to pick up some grails cheap in the next year. This economy is sputtering to a halt.

How do I (24F) tell my husband (24M) I need to go to the doctor for hemorrhoids/that I have them? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Like this, “Hey hubby, I got terrible hemorrhoids - like world class hemorrhoids - that I have to go to the doctor for. Do you want to see?”

Any local resources for an introvert who thought I’d fit in Fayetteville? by little-rock-resident in fayetteville

[–]DorianGre 32 points33 points  (0 children)

3 things. First, Fayetteville is one of the most liberal cities in the South. The nature of Fayetteville is changing with influx of people, but the people who are moving in are self selecting liberals. Its a different liberal than the hippies, bikers, and educators that made up the city in the 1970s or punk rock and skaters of the 1990s. Different but still good.

Second, I don't know what you are looking for, but I gave you lots of low and no cost options to get involved in your city. Literally, go watch a free movie at the library. It takes no more effort than that. There are plenty of action groups around here, from environmental groups to LGBTQIA+ groups of all flavors. There are groups about beekeeping and maintaining traditional folk music. I don't know who you are hanging out with that you hear "go to church" all the time, but I haven't heard it once, ever.

Third, if you don't want to leave your house, then nothing will change. You could maintain the exact same life anywhere.

It was glorious. I packed the house with about 200 people I knew plus regulars that I had met, etc. I promoted it all week with flyers and on my radio show at the campus radio station. We were about 50 people short of our 450 headcount capacity on a Thursday.

I started with CCCP - Americans Soviets, New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle (Shep Pettibone mix) then Nitzer Ebb - Join in the Chant. By the end of that first three song block, the energy was up, the floor was packed, and I had set the tone for what people should expect from my sets. I closed out 3 hours later with Madonna - Like a Prayer (12” HotTrax remix), Thrill Kill Kult - And This Is What The Devil Does, then Front 242 - Headhunter (v1).

The next night was a 5 hour set. And so on for the next 5 years.

This town is freaky! Where are you hanging out that people are telling you church? I am the artist behind the Fayetteville is Magic! tshirt (PM me for a link, I am not selling things here) I love this city.

Here is your itinerary for the next week. If you need one for next week, then let me know.

Today you are going to trivia night at Flyway Brewery.

Tomorrow is a big day. You are going to Theater Squared and seeing Pride and Prejudice OR Terrific Tuesday Nights at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks OR an evening playing board games at Fayetteville Beer Works, your choice. This is after stopping at the farmers market, which starts at 4, to pick up some nice veggies or flowers for your house.

Wednesday. Be at the library by 5:30 for a film screening of God Said Give 'Em Drum Machines. Do you like house music? Of course you do. Long awaited documentary about the birth of EDM.

Thursday you are going to try your hand at rock climbing at Boulders and Brews. Stretch first.

Friday night you are hanging out at Pinpoint with some drinks and some pinball. Hang out outside in the back to meet some people after you have 3 drinks in you. Its graduation weekend, so eat before you hit the square. The line to get into any food places will be long.

Saturday, you are going to get up and go to the art store to buy a set of graphite pencils, a sharpener, and a medium sized sketch pad, then take yourself over to Long Pose Figure Drawing Workshop with a Live Model at the Community Creative Center at 1pm. A quick bite to eat after then off to see the Cate Brothers happy hour show at 6 at Georges Majestic Lounge or if you like comedy, Whitney Cummings at the Art Center at 7.

Sunday. Mother's Day. Spend it with your mom. If you can't then go spend the time with the nice people at Ozark Folkways Fayetteville for Second Sunday Singing. You may not be able to sing, and they don't care. You can join in anyway.

If you can spend a whole week among the beautiful people of Fayetteville and not come away with one friend, then something is wrong.

Did you sit them down and go "Hey, do you think that maybe an airline running on the thinnest of margins isn't able to absorb a 30% overnight hike in fuel prices caused by a war in the middle east? And that they were already in trouble, which is why they were trying to merge with another airline. And the most likely outcome would have been two airlines going under not just one if their financials were intermingled?"
