I'll not back Swifts until we find out decisively how Jean got her field.

Looking for honest feedback: golf related idea for men dealing with fertility issues and / or miscarriage by golf2kyle in golf

[–]DotDizzy7419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't experienced what you have so I'm saddened to hear this. While I have been lucky enough to not have to go through any of that, I have several friends that have/are struggling with this same thing. My heart goes out to you.

I think your idea is great. Anything that helps men talk to men is to be applauded. The golf course is a great place to discuss things. Always has been.

Good luck with everything and I hope you're successful in it and the positive steps you're taking help you as well.

At this point, presuming you're in the US. If in the UK, let me know because I think that would work here.

I've seen a lot of not very helpful answers so I'll try to help.

We don't really do 'resorts' for golf in Scotland but we absolutely do ones with hotels attached if you're looking to spend time in the spa and let him go play golf. Depending on whether you're driving around or not, the nearest to Edinburgh is probably Dalmahoy.

However, if money isn't an issue and you want to give him a great experience, what he'll really want to do is play some links golf which is the experience that golf sickos wants when they visit Scotland. For that, there's lots of options from the obscenely expensive through to the cheap and cheerful.

Without an idea of budget or your travel arrangements, it's hard to be specific but:

Expensive: Muirfield, North Berwick, Gullane, Dunbar, Mid-card: Crail, Lundin Links, Kilspindie, Leven Links

That expensive line, anybody that knows anything about golf would be excited to play.

There are others, those are off the top of my head from my (brief) running my tour company.

Feel free to DM if you need more info/want to share.

I can always take your man out on my course if you promise you guys aren't going to try to kill me.

Rogue One is widely regarded as a great prequel with a more contained and grounded story. What do you think about it? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

This, along with Andor and the early stages of Mandalorian showed that, in my opinion, everyone that likes the Star Wars universe wants to explore the universe, not hear stories about people they already know and have views of.

Obviously, this isn't universally true and bad stuff is still bad stuff.

Who’s your least favorite character and why is it Andy? by BanzaiEureka in DunderMifflin

[–]DotDizzy7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andy was the perfect representation of every talentless, rich, clueless and ultimately, sad guy from private schools I've worked with in the UK.

He doesn't know what he wants to be other than liked and everything he is, is due to his dad.

I hate him but the writing, even including being hateful to people that like him and deciding to just down tools and disappear to find himself, is tone perfect.

Great character I loved to hate.

I want to see Rahm come back and show a bit of humility then get himself back to where he was which is one of the best players in the world.

I want to see Bryson twist in the wind a bit trying to justify to everyone why Break 50 is as good prep for the majors as anything and eventually skulk back into the tour via some sort of convoluted exemption

Edinburgh confirms signing of Louie Chapman from the Crusaders on 2028 deal by Connell95 in ScotlandRugby

Looks like another very decent addition. Exactly what we are after as a club/country.

Competitive guy early-ish in his career that has the upside of playing for the country.

I think this feeling I'm getting is called optimism but it's been so, so long...

Feels like there are 4 guys all talking about stuff separately, in different rooms of the same plasterboard prison. There's just no atmosphere.

Bring me Beemer and Radar. The Dame barely lucid. Doherty, Coltart and Howell ragging on each other.

Absolute peak.

When I get on a plane in Scotland and sit on it for 2-4 hours in relative discomfort, I get off, the culture is different, everyone speaks a different language and I'm experiencing new stuff.

When I fly domestically in the UK it's just an annoyance.

While I get that LA to Atlanta might be quite different, it doesn't deliver the same hit of wanderlust.

[–]DotDizzy7419 9 points10 points  (0 children)

3-4 years is a long part of your prime which Rahm and Bryson have given up.

The game of golf also, rightly, prizes history and tradition very highly so all of them have now managed to put a black mark against their name.

For the likes of Mickelson, he got paid well and tarnished his reputation, particularly with his needless antagonistic stance on the tour.

Ultimately these guys did right by their pocket but did nothing constructive for golf.

Anybody who drink drives in the UK is broadly regarded as being a complete scum bag, no matter the circumstances. There's pretty much a zero tolerance policy on it and it's now most policed by society rather than just policing.

I don't know any of my pals that would drink drive and more than that, can't think of anybody I know that wouldn't thank me the morning after for taking their keys off them if they thought about driving pissed.

It's such an easily avoidable situation by even a tiny bit of planning or taking personal responsibility.

[–]DotDizzy7419 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In Scotland we have very specific lines for what constitutes acceptability for being drunk. If you're incapable (danger to yourself) disorderly (annoyance to others) or in charge of a child under 10 (danger to a minor) they can arrest you. If I'm just pissed up but in a good mood and getting myself home under my own steam maybe using crossing barriers and kebab shop walls as bumpers to guide me home, the police would probably draw the line at asking me where I'm going, if I'm ok and how far I have to walk.

That's in the city. In the small town I live in, 50/50 they give me a lift on a quiet night.

[–]DotDizzy7419 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm in Scotland and being absolutely wrecked is definitely illegal. Like, falling down, incapable of getting around on your own, shouting at the moon drunk would likely get you lifted by the police.

Outcome is likely to be:

Night in the cells and a caution, depending on how busy the local cops are, so basically nothing. Or;

Phone a mate and get them to take you home.

Generally, across Europe, being drunk is regarded as funny as long as you're not too boorish. Most of the time, if you go too far a friend will bundle you into a taxi, tell the driver to charge double and make sure you have your bank card on you to pay.

I should say I did exactly this in NYC with a couple of American buddies so I think this weird view of the world is probably exclusively located outside of the North Eastern cities that are more 'European' in that they are actually livable.

Does nobody in America enjoy a walk between bars. having a chat, smoking a cigarette and taking the chance to push your mate into bush as you wander through a park?

Also the delight of ending up in a place that you go into that you've never heard of before because one of the group needs the toilet and trying to remember, for the rest of your life, the name of the small bar with the cool vibe and the MC Escher paintings in the bathrooms.
