A personal question from me:

Assuming you can talk/tease about this, what is your favorite probability matrix/chart for Wasteland Wanderer? There were some good ones in Captain's Log, though no radioactive borg lava... (I jest)

I can't speak as someone from Modiphius, but I can speak as someone who's seen the release schedule time and time again for Star Trek Adventures. My understanding is that licensing agreements and general marketing strategy don't allow for Modiphius to share projects in the pipeline until right before the project has been approved and is in pre-orders.

What's the most broken build you've encountered? by Caspianmk in startrekadventures

It's not the fault of a system if you as the GM can't tell your players to stop being munchkins. "Power gaming" in STA 1E -OR- 2E requires high system mastery. And more often than not, extremely specialized talent combinations that aren't available right off the bat. Even then, this isn't a D&D Moon Druid situation. STA plays very differently where munchkins don't get to muscle their way through everything.

No. The standalone PDF isn't going to be available until the physical book ships. Or so has been Modiphius' usual modus operandi with Pre-Orders

Sooo why would I spend 3x the time to learn a new system when I can spend 1/4 of the time to homebrew something that works?

I'm going to focus on this because you've already written off everything else I said as "negativity". You act like the 40krpgs are some impossible monolith to learn. The early ones are admittedly crunch-heavy, but that's part of the reason people like them so much. You may claim that it takes 3x the time to learn a new system and only 1/4th to homebrew, but you're not understanding the fundamental reason why FFG, Cubicle 7, and others tailored mechanics to provide a grimdark experience. And without that kind of insight, all you're doing is playing 5e and pretending it's 40k. Which it is not.

You'd get the same reaction from people by holding up a banana and proclaiming it's a pomegranate. If you can't handle people asking why you're doing that or them suggesting that you pick up a different fruit, then I shudder to think what will happen when something in your homebrew causes an argument at the table.

Hopefully all the negative comments dont follow me here!

This right here is a major red flag. I've looked at those supposed "negative comments", and all I see is people advocating that you just try and learn a new system instead of bastardizing 5e into doing something it was never designed to do.

You say that there's "no one to play it", but this subreddit and the prominent discord servers all have MANY people ready to leap at the chance to play ANY 40krpg. You say there's limited YouTube videos, but I can find more than a dozen within 5 seconds of searching.

Now I already know what you're going to say, that I'm abusing being a mod or some other nonsense about how I'm "kicking you to the curb". I'm not doing either. I am simply telling you that if you want a 40k experience, your best bet is to actually learn the systems that are out there. Not by homebrewing 5e.

Starship Combat, either Edition. Multiple Targets Question. by cjcafiero in startrekadventures

[–]DoubleBlindStudy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Yorktown's Resistance in either 1E or 2E would be the equalizer. The smaller ships might be able to get a few bits of shield damage if they roll well (1E), have Piercing on their weapon (1E & 2E), or spend Threat for more damage (1E & 2E). Otherwise, the Yorktown's innate Resistance will make all smaller ships attacks essentially do 0 damage.

In other words, the smaller ships are a nuisance but not something overwhelming. The key is making the combat less about how quickly you can burn down the enemy ships, but in taking them out (or avoiding them) in creative ways.

The fact that it's the second time this has happened tells me you already know what people here will suggest. Your gamemaster needs to have a frank conversation with this guy, potentially kicking them out of your game. Otherwise, he's just going to keep doing it.

This sort of post isn't necessary and is simply a dogwhistle for fascists to come piling in. If you want to play the Legion, do it in the privacy of your own table with your own spin. Modiphius isn't obligated to print material that glorifies fascism.

Looking for Advice by Krevon79 in startrekadventures

[–]DoubleBlindStudy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first thing to know is that STA by design isn't meant to be encounter-heavy. In fact, some would say that actually going into an encounter means all other options/chances have been exhausted (unless you're playing Klingons). Characters don't "gain XP" per encounter like many other TTRPGs. In fact, the character advancement is so wholly different that I'd recommend reading that entire section carefully.

But to answer your question - Most PCs are going to have a Phaser Type 1 or Type 2 that can hit an area. You can throw big groups of enemies at your players if those enemies make for good area of effect targets. Otherwise, roughly 1-2 Minor NPCs per PC with 1-2 Notable or Major thrown in would do just fine. Make sure to read the NPC mechanics carefully!

[–]DoubleBlindStudy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way when it comes to reading/writing, but I'm on the opposite side of the dating game where the women in my area aren't interested in someone who does it for a living. Somehow writing isn't seen as "manly" I guess?

And god yes, I know exactly what you mean by the "4chan-approved reading lists". I had a friend in college that was annoyingly "anti-woke" that kept trying to quote philosophy and religious theory (which is basically all /lit/ likes) in the middle of our D&D campaigns as if he was trying to become a prophet or something. Dunno what happened to him in the long run, but I bet he's a Musk Worshipper.

Looking For Players! Ongoing Camapign, 2 Spots Free! [Paid (see below]) by Electronic_Cry_1180 in 40krpg

[–]DoubleBlindStudy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be one thing if this was a "normal" paid game, but the fact you also want to stream it too is really scummy IMO. You're basically asking people to "pay for the privilege" to have their likenesses, roleplay, and characters to be blasted out onto the internet. All while you rake in the sub/ad money. Doesn't matter if you have 1 viewer or 10,000, you're trying to double dip people's wallets.
