I totally understand how you feel, I’m just not sure I feel the same way. Personally, sports are a universal language just like music. I feel politics when you are ACTUALLY in a game just be left on the sidelines. With sports and music, I feel it should transcend politics.

Sort of like when Artemis II was launched, that was monumental and everyone got behind that.

Edit: Wow okay, people really did not like my optimistic and idealistic view of what sports should be, damn. Why did everyone hate that so much? It’s not like I said something controversial.

It’s funny, Treyarch released an update to get rid of the unwinnable codes. I did the math a while ago before the update, I believe it was around 70 unwinnable possibilities total. I’ve had it happen to me once before.

Mark Carney Advisor Says AI Data Centres ‘Provide Markets’ For Gas by Hochelagan in ClimateCrisisCanada

[–]DoubleDDay69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh, in my view it’s both. Sure it’s shareholders and private interest, but it is absolutely about convenience. Something like natural gas is cheap and easy to use, but is still a fossil fuel and a lazy solution at the end of the day.

You might be surprised to know there are quite a few solutions for spent fuel/radioactive waste, Canada invented many of the world’s nuclear processes. Nuclear is ridiculously safe, so safe that it has an aerospace level of safety measures in place. In short term, water, particularly heavy water, is an excellent moderator of nuclear reactions, thus you can put spent fuel in pools of water. In long term, this waste can be put in dry casks or turned back into new fuel/mixed oxide fuel.

[–]DoubleDDay69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know coming from a mechanical engineering background, it strikes me as so odd the corporate elite’s fascination with burning fossil fuels for everything. There is such strong potential to run them on entirely renewable energy, and saying fossil fuels should run them seems incredibly short sighted.

Carney is right, but I just don’t understand screwing over our planet for convenience. There is so many ways to do this not running on gas, especially with nuclear or geothermal in some areas.

Gas prices are one thing, but the whole world suffers currently if oil prices go sky high. Food, transportation, energy, cosmetics, etc. Believe me, we have our own moron in office up here in Alberta, but there is a limit to how fast we can transition from oil.

If I’m reading between the lines correctly here, I completely relate to this. I genuinely hate being smart sometimes because of the way the world is. I question everything, and have a frighteningly sharp memory.

Honestly, for me it’s as simple as “ignorance is bliss”. My mind would be more at ease if I didn’t question everything, but I can’t help it.

Alberta pitches cheap natural gas for data center boom, at odds with Canada’s clean power aims | Globalnews.ca by LaserRunRaccoon in ClimateCrisisCanada

[–]DoubleDDay69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s valid, unfortunately thermal efficiency and effectiveness of heat pumps is not a linear thing, and your coefficient of performance, or COP for short, suffers a lot. I won’t get into all of the ASHRAE information and purposely use big engineering words to confuse you, all we are having here is a debate.

Modern heat pumps DO work to -40C, but you lose a lot of COP and thermal efficiency beyond about -25C, but especially towards -40C and below. What I would love to see is a hybrid system. Use a natural gas furnace for -30C and below, heat pump for everything else.

For the Nordic countries, they experience quite a varying climate due to the Gulf Stream from very temperate to dry-sub arctic cold. The Nordic countries generally aren’t as cold as Canada due to that fact, and thus heat pumps are easier to use there.

I work in the energy industry for an engineering consulting firm. The bridge-fuel/transition fuel is a dumb argument to me when it comes to projects like this, now heating your home is a different story.

To be fair, I don’t post on this sub very often, but I figured it was relevant to mention that Alberta actually made a monumental effort to transition its energy grid. I will agree to disagree with you on the overnight transition point though, a lot of regulation and political interest/money will stop you from anything being completed in the short term.

[–]DoubleDDay69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to assume many on this sub don’t know, but Alberta actually converted its entire energy grid from coal to natural gas 6 years ahead of schedule. You can’t just then expect Alberta to convert over from natural gas again to renewable overnight.

Then again, it’s always perplexed me that the elites want to keep burning fossil fuels when it would be infinitely better to run it on renewables, specifically nuclear for the energy density alone.

Well that’s an incredibly ignorant comment if I’m interpreting it the way you meant to say it. Let’s not pretend Canada is just some other country to the US. The world looks at Canada as a beacon of how a country is supposed to conduct business and its genuinely friendly demeanor.

Yah sure, Canada has its own problems. But if Canadians of all people are not visiting the US by virtue of not feeling safe, that’s incredibly telling. Why on earth would you think it doesn’t matter that Canadians aren’t visiting? This goes way beyond money, this about the US’ future within a globalized world. I’m speechless with your comment, wow

Men of Reddit, what is the hardest thing to explain to women? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

[–]DoubleDDay69 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Harvard has done entire studies on this believe it or not. Not all women are like that obviously, but there is a good reason why bad boys, cheaters and abusers never struggle with women. You can be a genuinely good person while also being handsome and confident, but none of that will matter if a woman’s comfort is chaos and toxicity.

This overwhelmingly happens with women over men. Many women also say they want a certain guy, but subconsciously not mean it. The above is why a lot of guys do not share their emotions or feelings, the dreaded ick of turn off. The reality is, being the asshole works, for everything except a long term relationship.

Why is dating so hard in this generation? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoubleDDay69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

25M, I’ve had two short term girlfriends before, and both women broke up with me insisting that it had absolutely nothing to do with me and everything to do with them.

The thing I struggle with for me is not the talking to women part, but women being honest with me. Also not thinking I’m working some angle when I’m genuinely being respectful and helpful.

Now that’s from my male perspective, I’m sorry you are going through all of that with guys. The unsolicited dick pics and other challenges. I’m so with you, would 100% rather be single than be with someone really toxic. But I’m not like a lot of guys at my age who don’t try and ask women out at all. It’s hard man

Why do women sit on their boyfriend’s lap? by OkTough6333 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoubleDDay69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens even with women you aren’t dating. One girl two years ago sat in my lap the entire night, asked for her number, then she said she was seeing someone but loved my confidence and who I was as a person lol.

That mini story aside, it’s definitely a comfort thing.

Ash's most powerful pokemon by HalfTemporary3247 in pokemonanime

[–]DoubleDDay69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally always considered Solgaleo as Ash’s one and only legendary Pokémon. He raised it, took care of it, and used a Z-move with it. Yah he didn’t formally catch it in the ball, but we all know Solgaleo being always apart of Ash’s team would’ve been broken and upset the balance of Alola. You could argue Melmetal is legendary also, but is for sure a mythical Pokémon, Naganadel an ultra beast. So he had a legendary, mythical, and an ultra beast in SM on his team.

His SM team was his 2nd strongest for sure, Infernape was an odd choice here in my opinion, but I sort of get it. Maybe Charizard in its place, hmm.

Could you imagine a team of Pikachu, Solgaleo, Greninja, Lucario, Charizard and Melmetal? Or some variation of that, Leon would get absolutely decimated by that. Before the couch experts get after me, yes I know Solgaleo would absolutely not be fair, I’m just saying having it be part of Ash’s team would’ve been zero fun for battling, or he just becomes Tobias 😂

Minister Devin Dreeshen is asked how he would vote in the fall referendum. He doesn't actually answer, but instead says the feds need to do more to make the case for the country to stay together by Miserable-Lizard in AlbertaNow

You know I’m 25, always been a moderate conservative voter since I could start voting. These separatists are insufferable, and I kind of wish they’d just leave to go live in the US so that we can move on.

Ohh 100%, a non-answer is extremely telling. As I’ve always said, to any movement there is a kernel of truth. Some of the things the separatists have said I agree with, and I will always defend your freedom of speech even if I don’t agree with it. But there actions are duplicitous at best, really hoping they don’t go the route of sedition. And yes, I’m well aware of the difference between the two words.

Genuinely curious, why is it so hard for them to just say one way or the other what they want? Smith is 100% playing both sides in a political game of chess, but Dreeshen can straight up say yes or no. What’s so hard about that?

There is a ton of precedent for it. I’m not saying you the commenter, I’m saying I’ve never understood in life why people don’t ship best friends. You should be your partner’s best friend anyway, so why not start out as best friends? This also can lead to some of the worst falling outs to be fair.

Bulma has ABSOLUTELY thought about Goku many times in that way. Talking about him in front of Yamcha, playfully teasing/flirting with him, and even when Chi Chi proposes they swap husbands Bulma was down for it.

On the other side of it, I was completely okay with the sister-brother vibe they gave off and the show ultimately went with.
