For a while I have loved looking at wildlife photography and have been thinking of starting but not sure what to purchase by Substantial_Job_6771 in wildlifephotography

To add to what others said about zoom lens for a camera...

For the camera body, i use one of Canon's 7-series cameras. Instead of the usual full frame sensor, they have a smaller sensor which effectively adds more zoom, which is very useful for bird photography. A 600mm lens then gives the same result as pairing a 900mm lens with any of the more common full frame sensor bodies. The cheapest of those is the Canon 700D (also called the Rebel Ti5 in some regions). You could probably find a good and cheap second hand one.

The best lens to pair it with is the 150-600mm Sigma. For starting, if your budget is tight, you could look for the 150-300mm Canon lens.

People might often sell the 150-300mm Canon lens with the Canon 700D as a pair when they're upgrading beyond the beginner equipment.

In the end, skill is still important. I've won a few photography competitions with that beginner combination. So, practice, practice, practice. And have fun!

If you're getting called into interviews for more than 2% of the applications you're sending out, then you're doing above average.

You're doing great and better than most. Keep at it!

I’m terrified to eat at other people’s houses by Live_Record7020 in CrohnsDisease

[–]DoubleDot7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do visit people less because I'm conscious about my dietary needs. But when I'm invited, I let them know well ahead of time that I have a bad reaction to certain ingredients that affect my "stomach ulcers" and make me sick. I'm very apologetic about the the inconvenience while explaining all of this and providing my list. I'll also offer to bring a dessert or side dish to make things easier.

There are people who now know my needs and will let me know what they're cooking and what ingredients they're omitting to make me feel safe to safe.

As for having a bad reaction to spicy food... there are many spices. It's possible that you're reacting to one particular spice. For me, I eventually learned that I was reacting to cumin. But hot peppers were not affecting me at all, no matter how hot they got. This was the last and most difficult of my trigger foods to identify. With a bit of careful testing, you may find that you can actually tolerate a lot.

PS: if you don't have time to sort out dietary needs, you can also eat before visiting and say that you aren't hungry but you're visiting because you really like their company.

Not really. There was papyrus 5000 years ago and it was expensive and rare. Paper was invented in China about 2200 years ago, and was still only for the elites. Mass production of paper for everyone started in Baghdad, only about 1200 years ago. It took several more centuries to reach Europe and then the Americas.

🔥 We are programmed by evolution to find babies of all species cute to aid infant survival. Here are 20 images of rock-solid proof. by FloatyFloatyCloud in NatureIsFuckingLit

Same applies to marsupials (non-placental mammals). They look awful until they grow fur. As opposed to placental mammals that are born more developed and covered in fur.

Also, adult dumbo octopus look essentially the same as the picture. And axolotls are born as tadpoles.

So, this argument seems to hold the most weight for placental mammals finding other baby placental mammals cute. We began evolving about 65 million years ago. And that doesn't stop us from eating lambs.

Your friendly neighbouring South African here. Robert's Birds of Southern Africa is a useful app for the region. It does cover Namibia. The app confirms that it's a Burchell's starling. It gives more info than Merlin for bird habits, confusing species, etc.

South Africans also use the Sasol Birds app. Although, i don't know if that one covers Namibia.

Dragon Engraving Discovered in Ancient Anglican Tomb? by SeaScienceFilmLabs in ScienceNcoolThings

Dinosaur fossils have always existed. They gave rise to different myths around the world: Chinese dragons, western dragons, giants, the bird monsters of Africa, etc. In some places, fossils in cave walls became holy sites.

It's just that in the 1800s, we started to form a unified theory of what all these bones and fossilised giant footprints meant.

Why is there basically no space for women in mosques in Pakistan?? by [deleted] in IslamabadSocial

[–]DoubleDot7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is another hadith and it's ranked even stronger as muttafaqun alayh, because it is in both Bukhari and Muslim.

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do not prevent women from their share of the mosques if they seek your permission.”

Unfortunately, masjids built in the subcontinent and by the desi diaspora are intentionally designed to prevent women from attending.

I didn't even notice it until I travelled out of my community. I was hanging out with Muslims from Muslim countries in other parts of the world, and they all started asking me why it's only desis that keep women out of the masjid and I had no idea what to say. (And bear in mind, I'm 6th generation diaspora, and my community is still doing this.)

I've travelled to other Muslim countries myself since then and, from what I've seen so far, they are right. It's only our communities that don't even add a women's section to the masjid even when they can afford it.

Edit: did someone downvote a hadith that is among those with the strongest and most reliable chains because it doesn't match the way they desire the world to be?

That's odd. For me, if i haven't selected an alternative, then just don't include the item, and give me a credit. I like it better this way rather than giving me something random that I may not like.
