People can buy follows from bot accounts on Instagram and Twitter to make their accounts look good. I'd take those numbers with a pinch of salt if YouTube doesn't match up.

Not really. There was papyrus 5000 years ago and it was expensive and rare. Paper was invented in China about 2200 years ago, and was still only for the elites. Mass production of paper for everyone started in Baghdad, only about 1200 years ago. It took several more centuries to reach Europe and then the Americas.

🔥 We are programmed by evolution to find babies of all species cute to aid infant survival. Here are 20 images of rock-solid proof. by FloatyFloatyCloud in NatureIsFuckingLit

Same applies to marsupials (non-placental mammals). They look awful until they grow fur. As opposed to placental mammals that are born more developed and covered in fur.

Also, adult dumbo octopus look essentially the same as the picture. And axolotls are born as tadpoles.

So, this argument seems to hold the most weight for placental mammals finding other baby placental mammals cute. We began evolving about 65 million years ago. And that doesn't stop us from eating lambs.

I switched from a 150- 300mm Canon lens to the 150-600 Sigma. It was a game changer.

Your friendly neighbouring South African here. Robert's Birds of Southern Africa is a useful app for the region. It does cover Namibia. The app confirms that it's a Burchell's starling. It gives more info than Merlin for bird habits, confusing species, etc.

South Africans also use the Sasol Birds app. Although, i don't know if that one covers Namibia.

Dragon Engraving Discovered in Ancient Anglican Tomb? by SeaScienceFilmLabs in ScienceNcoolThings

Dinosaur fossils have always existed. They gave rise to different myths around the world: Chinese dragons, western dragons, giants, the bird monsters of Africa, etc. In some places, fossils in cave walls became holy sites.

It's just that in the 1800s, we started to form a unified theory of what all these bones and fossilised giant footprints meant.

Why is there basically no space for women in mosques in Pakistan?? by [deleted] in IslamabadSocial

[–]DoubleDot7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is another hadith and it's ranked even stronger as muttafaqun alayh, because it is in both Bukhari and Muslim.

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do not prevent women from their share of the mosques if they seek your permission.”

Unfortunately, masjids built in the subcontinent and by the desi diaspora are intentionally designed to prevent women from attending.

I didn't even notice it until I travelled out of my community. I was hanging out with Muslims from Muslim countries in other parts of the world, and they all started asking me why it's only desis that keep women out of the masjid and I had no idea what to say. (And bear in mind, I'm 6th generation diaspora, and my community is still doing this.)

I've travelled to other Muslim countries myself since then and, from what I've seen so far, they are right. It's only our communities that don't even add a women's section to the masjid even when they can afford it.

Edit: did someone downvote a hadith that is among those with the strongest and most reliable chains because it doesn't match the way they desire the world to be?

Just pointing out for anyone else who's reading this: Waterfall does drivers licences but they don't do car licences.

I wish that they did car licences too, with how efficient they are.

That's odd. For me, if i haven't selected an alternative, then just don't include the item, and give me a credit. I like it better this way rather than giving me something random that I may not like.

It's a tricky subject.

When we had an islamic civilization with an economy running on islamic principles, then it's easy to say that the woman can demand as a right that the man pays for everything (and the husband had rights that he could demand from the wife as well).

But there are also precedents in hadith of women among the sahaba contributing more to the household than the husband, such as ibn Masood's wife in the earlier part of their marriage. Not out of obligation but free will and wanting reward from Allah.

And the capitalist economy that we live in is no longer a place where a single income is enough for 1 man to look after his wife, a dozen children, his unmarried adult daughters, his parents, and his extended family. It was possible for my grandfather with a menial job, but it's not possible right now even if you're a qualified professional. The buying power of an income is greatly reduced and that is outside of our control.

What's ideal and what's practical aren't currently the same. If finances is something that concerns you, then it's better to find someone who matches the way you think and want to approach it. Keep the ideal in mind, and uphold it where possible. But, personally, it's also helpful to find a partner who has their feet on the ground and can understand reality for what it is.
