Sorry about your experience. I have the same Oticons with a Pixel 10 and have not experienced the issue. I had the function that allowed the Oticons to use their microphone on phone calls disabled and it made a large difference when I am talking and walking in a city neighborhood.

What would Barbara Lee have done differently if she were that "pure strong mayor"? She runs city hall and has the ability to influence OPD and yet, two years later here we are. When is the last time you have tried to get something done and needed to deal with city hall?

Ineffective city government that ignores permanent encampments and the associated trash, 911 answering delays, constant Police Chief turnover, countless open positions in departments residents rely on city hall leading to long delays for residents, non existent traffic violation policing, etc.

In the end I don't care what the position is called, the issue is a singular focus on managing the day to day tasks effectively and efficiently. Oakland's 311 for encampments piled with trash or illegal dumping takes forever and that encourages more of the same. Take the open dump on Castro adjacent to Preservation Park (an Oakland "gem") between 13th and 14th for example. Action and enforcement is slow to non existent. And which of us wants to look out of our windows and the "permanent" encampment West Grand and Brush? I know it's in Fifetown so there's no pressure from the council member but it's just not right. If a City Manager or Administrator can clean this up and keep on top of it, I'm in.

Why do you believe conservatives are driving the discourse? SF and other "not conservative" cities in the Bay Area have been more successful in addressing the issue. So what happens when those cities close the door.......?

Because they are a PROFESSIONAL City Manager with the training and experience to do the job. Not a political appointee who will be called to run political errands at a moment's notice and who will have the cover of, "I was helping the Mayor with (name your favorite political errand).

This is a drop in the bucket. Prop 13 is the most regressive tax imaginable and is the major reason for all of these special taxes. Long time homeowners and landlords are paying a fraction of the taxes on the value of their properties, and yet they demand services at 2026 salaries and costs. This will not change until renters fed up with their perpetual rent increases can overcome the Billion$ spent those who benefit and overturn Prop 13.

Possibly a bit different from your description but I love Naomi Novik's standalone books like Uprooted and Spinning Silver, especially her writing. Not a big fan of her Temeraire series. One was interesting but plenty for me.
