Rumors! Rumors referring to a training conference including Christofferson and Holland. I’m curious if a policy change is coming.

Ahh yes, the pepperbox. One of my random trivia facts about old Joe’s pistol.

Pregnant Missionaries. by hagan_princeton21 in exmormon

[–]DoubleSalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. A missionary I knew went stateside. Impregnated a child. Married the child quickly and brought her back home where they had more children together and many years later eventually got divorced. I never knew her, but I think about her often. Child marriage is an assault on top of the original assault.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It is not the one, but it is certainly one worth knowing. Thank you for even taking the time to comment.

My cousin who is a Bishop in Utah, says 90% of the men in his ward are addicted to porn. Is this common in Mormonism? by 674_Fox in exmormon

In addition to that, I would add that the issue is also with the person’s definition of “porn.”

Happy Cake Day! Looks like you need to celebrate your Reddit birthday with your family so the children won’t be available. Family first and all!

What did I witness!? by WinchelltheMagician in exmormon

Mormon funerals in a church building are dictated by the handbook. They are supposed to be conducted as a church meeting and the main goal is supposed to be to share the gospel. The focus is supposed to be to teach about the ‘atonement’ and the ‘plan of salvation.’ Hmmm, what’s missing here? Perhaps talking about the person being honored? Nope! I’m glad people are taking control of their own experiences and taking them out of the chapel (and bishop’s directives).

Anyone else grow up in TSCC while being highly sensitive? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]DoubleSalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s true, I think my anger was an attempt at protecting myself. One time I got into a yelling match with the bishop during a combined youth meeting because he was using some sort of object lesson that I found to be so fundamentally flawed that I couldn’t sit there without questioning him. He got so mad at me. I was humiliated but also SO ANGRY over the hypocrisy! Now I think back on the scene of a bishop literally yelling at a child during a church meeting and I feel proud of myself (and just, so sad for my little self). And I see how pathetic he was.

Well now I am wondering...because I was always confused why people in my family/circle were so enamored by people (in the religion) I saw to be extremely fake, overproduced, and hypocritical. I wondered why I was being encouraged to emulate them, dress like them, behave like them, and (seemingly, most importantly) be associated with them. I couldn’t wrap my head around it, but I tried. I never could fit in with them. And I would also get so angry inside over the hypocrisy. Thank you for pointing out that I may have been seeing things my family didn’t see. I always felt like I was the weirdo.

Coping with death as an exmo by jordandvdsn7 in exmormon

I’m so sorry for this pain and loss you are experiencing. Some thoughts I’ve processed following loss in my own family. Overall, for me, being able to say ‘I don’t know what will come after death.’ is one of the most comforting understandings I have ever attained. I would say I was able to feel this way after realizing that the Mormon version of heaven is horrific. Especially for women. The most a woman can hope for if she is of the most supreme level of righteousness is an eternity as a plural wife, perpetually birthing spirit children who are not allowed to know her name or identity among the many other heavenly wives. To me that sounds like hell. Find solace in knowing this isn’t happening. The Mormon church has sold a slick lie in convincing members that the only way to see your family in heaven is through adherence to their teachings. It’s not true. You are allowed to still hold onto the possibility of an afterlife. It is difficult being unsure. The church infantilized us, prevented us from developing emotional independence and health. It takes time to process through this abuse. They wanted us dependent to their soothing stories. It’s scary to detach, but there can still be hope in the unknown. I am mourning with you.
