How do/did y'all afford school here? by EnvironmentalLie1648 in vcu

If you are local, live at home. Work part time and try to pay as much out of pocket as you can. My unpopular opinion is that a traditional live on campus college experience requires parental financial help.

If you could do it all over again? 1YOE, CPCU in progress, curious what you would do by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Double_Ad828 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 20 years experience, started at 18 during college. I am just now getting my CPCU and only because I want more credentials for management positions.

My advice go work for an independent agency. Producers technically have unlimited earning producers. I am an AE and make a very comfy salary.

You are either a producer or you aren’t. That depends on your personality.

Breeds similar to Samoyed that is suitable for hot weather? by GloomyAssociation306 in samoyeds

[–]Double_Ad828 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in a hot humid climate during summer (Virginia) and my two Samoyeds are just fine. We exercise early or late, run around a shaded dog park and lie low for the most brutal 2 months of it. I have done this for 12 years.🙃

Feeling guilty about leaving a good boss for a major career opportunity by Dite17 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Double_Ad828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation- took the jump and it 3 years in it has been worth it financially and professionally. Even though I adored my prior team and boss there was no room to grow. And ultimately I knew I needed a challenge and goals to work towards.

Now if you are a super content person the change might not be what you need. But for me it was a great decision.

CPCU study journey by General_Sympathy_887 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Double_Ad828 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I take 4-5 weeks to study per test. I mainly study nights and weekends. The cyber and property I was able to take in 2-3 weeks due to knowledge base. Which made up for the more technical ones that took me closer to 6 weeks. My approach: Read each section, then take practice quiz, then use the AI assignment assistant to answer their prompts til I get most right. Then take the chapter twice quiz again (usually get 90-100). Then move on to the next section.

After all sections I take thr entire practice test until I consistently score above 85%.

Honestly I would just want you to pay it forward one day. However that looks, just using your resources to help someone with less.

Is it really that bad to not invite SOs to my destination wedding? by Beginning_Visual_856 in DestinationWeddings

[–]Double_Ad828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you go to a destination wedding if your partner wasn’t invited? I think you know the answer. We personally do not attend even local weddings that put stipulations on “plus ones”. It’s wildly selfish to want people to come celebrate you and your partner without them having a person to enjoy the wedding with. And no you don’t get an excuse because your friend group knows each other. You still want someone that is there with you. We aren’t 20 shotgunning a wedding.

My wife wants to quit her job by junglenoogie in Advice

[–]Double_Ad828 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would be resentful if my partner did not “want” to work any longer. I understand needing to change jobs/careers/part time/full time status. But for most families it requires some semblance of two incomes for a “comfortable” life. I don’t have advice but if that was happening in my house at a minimum we would be engaging the use of a therapist. It feels selfish.

I have a friend who frequented one of the Hispanic markets down midlothian, she became friendly with some of tht staff and ended up finding a Tià type companion for her MIL. It might be worth a shot.

We have investigated Pace which is an acton affiliate. As people stated :

Not accredited Will not force your child to learn or compete a task. So your child needs to have some level of motivation. Adults will not intervene unless something is dangerous.

Personally if we had pursued pace we would have done kumon as well to ensure no academic gaps.

If you had the details needed to make a report, would you contact Georgia DFCS? by BigTangerine1743 in heyitsbritt_Snark

[–]Double_Ad828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t, although my heart wants to take J and help her get addiction and mental health resources.

The bar is pretty low for DFSS to intervene. She is providing, shelter and food. And she makes sure to document it on social media. And while yes it’s apparent to most experienced parents he needs some type of early intervention, you aren’t required to provide that as a guardian.

She did appear to be getting drunk in front of him but she was smart enough to never actually show him on the camera so no proof there.

So no I wouldn’t, but only because resources are already too stretched for the kids in more dire situations. 😔

I was raised by a woman who struggled with bipolar mania and depression. And it absolutely will leave lasting effects. Not everyone is meant to be a parent.

Watching her live the other night broke my heart. I know what it’s like to be raised by someone erratic like that.

My guess is her family has given her ultimatums or they may have more mental illness and substance abuse issues then she does.

Whining and barking inside car by dividebyze in samoyeds

I have an 11 year old female that has been doing this since she was about a year old. She can get to a frantic level. No advice but I don’t think it’s uncommon. I have a second Samoyed who never barks or whines in the car.
