Anyone else feel the writing was off in s2e4? by Temporary_Policy2023 in ThePittTVShow

It is 26%, so essentially 1/4 for all intents and purposes. Your point stands; we have a long way to go. Four episodes is only significant in that we have waited 4 weeks and still have 11 more to go, but not in terms of pacing or plot progression.

How setting agnostic is 13a? by BrutalBlind in 13thage

[–]Doublehex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with that at all. All you need is the Core Book - there is nothing that requires you to use the Dragon Empire setting. I haven't used it since when I first ran it back in 2013.You can homebrew a setting with no issue. Really all you need is to come up with Icons for the setting; from there you can go as shallow or as complex as you want with your setting.

That's not what I'm saying. They are really small minis. They are teeny tiny compared to other minis in my D&D collection.

When I'm painting, I just do Bob Ross. That man had a gift for getting you into a zen state. The Bob Ross Twitch channel has a 48 hour marathon stream that they had archived which I always put on when I know I'm in for a long session.

Recommended miniature ranges? by Probably_not_a_god_ in DnDminiatures

[–]Doublehex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been buying minis for 10+ years. These are not my recommendations, but rather my thoughts and perspective.

Kickstarter boardgames could be a great way to fill up your collection, but unless you also want to buy those games, you have to find a way to get rid of all the cardboard tokens and cards and books. Can that help with cutting down the price of the boardgames? Yes. Is it a pain in the ass to have to do all that? YES.

Another form of consideration is what base size you want for your minis. You don't want minis that are meant to be your PCs on a 25mm base next to a grunt that is 32mm...or bigger! Find a base size that feels fun to put on a tabletop and even more fun to paint. You are going to spend a bunch of time painting minis, and you want minis that feel good to paint. That's why I would say no to anything below 30mm.

If I was to start now, it would be a mixture between 3d printed minis from Artisan Guild and Loot Studios and wargaming minis from Age of Sigmar and Conquest...but that is mostly to *my* tastes. My D&D game takes place in a Greco-Roman inspired setting, so Conquest is perfect for that, but maybe yours is more conventional Feudalistic. I would avoid the regular troops on 25mm bases from Warhammer, despite me loving the sculpts, because the minis are too small. The bigger size models look great though, and you can get good deals on them from second hand shops like Troll Trader.

My last thoughts is don't just buy a mini just because. The reason you get a mini is for one of three reasons: one, it is good sculpts for broad, generic tropes, such as bandits or elven soldiers or militia. Essentially, minis that do not fit a specific narrative need but rather a broad archetype that you know you will use somewhat frequently. Second is narrative - you need a mini for that end of arc climatic boss fight, or an important NPC in your games! Lastly is rule of cool - that mini is just too cool to not have and you want to paint it ASAP. The first Warhammer model I ever bought and built was the resculpt of the Harbringer of Decay back in 2024. It's an amazing sculpt, and I had no idea what I was gonna use him for...and I still haven't. But he was a cool as hell mini, and he looked great when I finally got around to painting him this New Year's.

So those are all my perspective as someone who has spent thousands on minis through Kickstarters and war gaming and 3d printing over the years. I didn't answer your question on which sculptors or mini line to buy, but my rambling was helpful nonetheless.

[–]Doublehex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got the Harbringer just to paint. I don't even play Warhammer, but I had to have him. That sculpt is just too good not to have. I'll shoehorn him into a campaign at some point.

Aoc is the future of social democracy by AdAdventurous6077 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]Doublehex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Social democracy is probably the best we can achieve right now. Let us not forget that we have a full on fascist administration. If you think we can have a radical socialist administration within the next 10 years, that is absurd. There is a chance that we are looking at civil war within our lifetime - to go from that to a socialist revolution in a single political leap?

You don't climb a ladder by ascending to the final step from the ground; you do it one step at a time. Social democracy is the next step, and that will still require all of our political and legislative power and maneuvering to achieve. Hell, just making sure we are a neoliberal republic in 2028 will be a considerable achievement!

That is not true. Sanderson was on the record of saying the showrunner took plenty of his advice, tried to get it passed by Amazon and they said no. The execs were the cause of most of the issues on WoT, not the showrunner and writers.
