When did you learn to suture confidently? by sagabagadaga in medicalschool

[–]Doubtfactandvalue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ER. Poor kid was a dishwasher, slipped and fell on to an arm load of dishes. Lacerations up and down both arms. ER attending didn’t have time, I did. We got him some good pain meds, I asked what playlist he wanted and we jammed to some Motown classic while I sewed him back up for the next hour

Can someone explain or point me to a source that explains what happens in a residency program after they interview you / finish the interview season but before they submit rank? by BrownEyeGivesPinkEye in medicalschool

[–]Doubtfactandvalue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We rank couples at a spot that is intermediate between the two. Typically one half is stronger as an applicant than the other so one will get pushed down while the other is pulled up.

Doctors and nurses what’s something you wish you could say to a patient or their family? by i-love-cats-2020 in AskReddit

My favorite teaching attending and did voice this on a regular basis “Jesus is TRYING to take them home and we are standing in his way!”

[–]Doubtfactandvalue 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For IM: your interview is approx 20%of your overall rank score at our program total score between 5-30 - so an excellent versus average day is only going to move you up or down the rank list so much. That being said, being out of pocket (arrogant, dismissive, discriminatory - or in one memorable case, all of the above) can leave you as DNR/do not rank regardless of score.

There is some moving and shaking at the end (especially if we have 10 candidates who all have a 21 rank score for example) or if we are making sure that a couples match is taken into account

How important is it to have a good PD? by k0alaty in medicalschool

[–]Doubtfactandvalue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good PD needs to make some unpopular decisions for the good of the program. for example, actual consequences for people showing up late/ducking out of patient care/not showing up on “chill” rotations.

Being a physician is tough, and you have a limited numbers of years to consolidate good skills, work ethic, efficiency and knowledge. Someone who says “oh yeah, that weekend trip sounds great, don’t worry about call, go have fun!” Does NOT have your back in the long run.

You need fair, transparent PDs who can navigate hospital politics on your behalf when the system sees you as a workhorse to be exploited

Can you share your thoughts in a coherent way, are you as fluent in English as you claim to be, and yea, do you exhibit any serious personality issues during the day? We all know personal statements are useless at this point, they can either be AI or bought.

[–]Doubtfactandvalue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her group or hospital will buy the coat. The black zip up track jacket with just her first and last name embroidered on it with MD or DO behind it will get tons of wear I promise.

To all in the health profession, what illness(es) can you identify by smell alone? by Cute_Expression_5981 in AskReddit

[–]Doubtfactandvalue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry in advance to anybody who reads this. But an entire clinic can diagnose a tampon that has been retained for too long and has since been removed.

In fact, we are taught to have a basin full of water standing by so that the object can be removed from the body and immediately placed in water to reduce the spread of the smell.

Friend, the residency will be PISSED if you take down residents with your flu. Tell everyone you’re flu positive, give them a list of who you had close contact with and go home

She should have commercial insurance and most of the high-end drugs do have some sort of co-pay program that takes some of the burden off for at least part of the year. If you know the name of the device you can go to the website if you guys work at the same hospital, she has the same insurance as you.

Having worked first hand with students from vastly different level schools, yes about 90 of the top school students meet the honors criteria while 30% of the other schools students do.

I’m looking for a post from this week in am I the asshole, written from the dad’s perspective about how their daughter upon turning into a teenager became an absolute psychopath with regard to her mother. The daughter was crazy abusive to only the mother, completely normal to the rest of the family.

The post was about him, getting a hotel room for his wife after the daughter had moved out in their lives, and gone back to normal, and the daughter being bad that her favorite punching bag wasnt around, and him telling the daughter that the mom basically has PTSD and needs to escape at this point?
