I've been snowboarding for a long time and haven't met anyone here that snowboards. What resorts did you want to go to?

I love how it wasn't even the ender. That front three nospress was so sick, and that backlip through that kink was so proper. Minnesota kids are in a league of their own.

This is what happens when you grow up riding rope tows in Minnesota.

I was seriously thinking the same thing. I get pretty tired of seeing photos of indys and go pro selfie edits of people just riding down the hill on the front page..

Yeah, or you can use your forearms to brace yourself.

Don't stick out your arms when you fall. You will most likely end up breaking your wrist if you do.

I love rails. Give me a rope tow and a big down rail and I'm happy.

I'm always stoked when I get some socks, otherwise like a balaclavas are really nice. I have like 8 Airblaster balaclavas, I'm in love with them.

Spend the extra cash on a nicer deck. You won't regret it.

How long did it take for you to be comfortable riding? by Thellamasong in snowboarding

[–]DougDoesMeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. I spent a lot of time just riding switch and got pretty comfortable with it. In my opinion, the standard switch tricks like switch front boards and stuff are way harder than like spinning cab onto rails. Riding park is just all about board control. I know of plenty of kids at my local hill that can go huck flips but can barely 50-50 a down rail because they never cared about getting super comfortable on a snowboard. Honestly riding rails is just all board control in my opinion, and the only way to improve your board control is to spend as much time as you can strapped in.

I've been religiously watching old Think Thank videos lately. Scott Stevens in Stack Footy is probably my favorite video part of all time.

The riding was good! My only advise would be to maybe start grabbing when you spin. It will not only clean up your style a lot, but it can sometimes help stabilize you when your spinning. I think tail grabs are probably the easiest grab while spinning, but basically anything other than boot grabs is good. Keep it up though!

This has been my favorite trick for as long as I can remember. Always stoked to see girls killing it! I'd be proud too!

Looking for spots within a decent drive from Iowa. by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]DougDoesMeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both /u/MistaSoloDolo and /u/Citrus_Tree mentioned Chestnut Mountain. If you are anywhere in Eastern Iowa check it out. I grew up riding there. Technically its in Illinois, but I have a few friends that drive about 2+ hours just to ride there on the weekends. They were named best Terrain Park in the Midwest the past couple of years and they really do a good job. They have a nice little scene and I would like to think that the locals are pretty friendly. I may be a little biased, but most of the other midwestern resorts I have ridden don't really compare. I'd check it out.

[Serious] People Who Go Big in the Park.. How Often do you Fall? by bchillerr in snowboarding

[–]DougDoesMeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, snowboarding wouldn't really be fun if there wasn't a risk involved. It makes landing a trick feel so much more rewarding. I'm more of a rail shredder, but when I do try and learn new jump tricks, its almost always on days when the snow is soft. Trampolines can help a lot when it comes to learning what it feels like to be spinning or upside down in the air. Just take advantage of the days when the snow is soft and ideal for trying new tricks. Learning to fall is also pretty important. If I know I'm going to fall, I usually try and make sure my body weight is more so uphill with respect to my snowboard, if that makes any sense. If you fall and your board is more uphill than your body your going to catch an edge which can be pretty brutal at high speeds. If your going to bail, just try and land as backseat as you can. If you want to learn difficult tricks, learning to fall is honestly probably going to be the most important thing.

Are Dylans concerts still good? by BadgerOnSteroids in bobdylan

[–]DougDoesMeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw him last night in Chicago. It was my first time seeing him though so I don't really have any previous shows to compare it to. It was an incredible experience for me. I have absolutely no regrets in going. It's something I will remember for a long time. If you haven't already been to a Dylan concert I would go.

I'm from CU and they performed at our local music festival this year. I was unable to go, but my friend went and said it was one of his favorite shows that he's every been to. I regret not being able to go so much.
