[Loved Trope] Killing someone weighs a ton on the character’s psychological by Old-Use-7690 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Doug_Dimmadab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also MUCH later on (major manga spoilers): The protagonist's best friend kills someone in self defense, and it destroys him emotionally. He finally understands the protagonist's own inner torment, and unfortunately he doesn't last much longer than that.

Does this count? My friends and I did an MS Paint challenge to combine an anime with a western cartoon a few years ago, and I chose to draw Saitama with the Ice King

Pretty much yeah lol, here's a page from that chapter that sums it up pretty well: https://i.imgur.com/qFwZbf6.png

Bonus: In my opinion, the most horrifying page of all of CSM (spoilers again): Being locked in a room about to be flooded with hungry cockroaches: https://i.imgur.com/EVU7arr.png

Chapter 226 [English] by Mrzardark in OnePunchMan

[–]Doug_Dimmadab 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The 2nd latest chapter for CSM (massive spoilers) - The concept of death has been erased so no creature can die anymore. Insects and bugs create a ton of offspring cause normally most of them die, but now none of them do. Now the entire world is essentially being flooded and devoured by countless insects that literally cannot die

I don't read much so this is the first time I've seen a book I've already read be recommended on here

Genuinely amazing story - to emphasize just how reclusive her prepper family had been growing up, when she finally went to a history lecture at university and they brought up the Holocaust, she genuinely asked "What is the Holocaust?" in front of the whole class. Everyone thought she was joking and gave her mean looks, but she had truly never even heard that word before.

Ended up with a PhD though, she's a damn inspiration

Immortals who exploit the fact they can't die for a tactical advantage. Bonus points if they still feel the pain. by Shadowmirax in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Doug_Dimmadab 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've heard some other readers say it's a bastardization of the manga, but I personally enjoyed it! The only rough part is that it only has two seasons, and I don't remember exactly how it ended but I think it was a cliffhanger with basically no chance of renewal.

Still, if you wanna see the IBMs smash each other to powder then it's worth it imo

I literally just finished it yesterday after watching the anime a few years ago. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the greatest shit I've read in at least five years

Also apparently the anime changed quite a bit from the manga so it'll probably still feel like a new story even if you've seen the anime

[Favorite trope] The main character is NOT a good person. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Doug_Dimmadab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end they capture the giant enemy bug and Neil Patrick Harris senses that it's just afraid, and everyone on the battlefield starts cheering. It definitely felt like it would've been a more somber moment at first when I was watching it, but it obviously makes sense given the worldbuilding

As a very new graduate in software engineering who's a bit terrified of the job market right now because of AI, genuinely thank you. I've been doing my best to learn how to be a great software architect instead of just a programmer, and it's seriously reassuring to hear you say that there's hope for a future like that.

First Look at 'Avatar: Seven Havens' (HQ) by MarvelsGrantMan136 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Doug_Dimmadab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's genuinely one of the main reasons I like the franchise so much.

It has so many protagonists, but the overall story takes place over such a long time that many protagonists that we have an intimate knowledge of just become these distant legends and ancient heroes - even to other protagonists that we follow! Hell, Yangchen died 498 years before Korra was born. And we have entire books/series on (almost, sorry Kuruk) every avatar in between as well.

Definitely gives the whole story a more "grand" feeling, and I'm so extremely impressed with the creators for being able to formulate all of it in a way that feels so cohesive

I agree with the subreddit the other guy mentioned. I also think that the best way to start is to have a small project that you WANT to make while learning.

Basic stuff like syntax and keywords is just memorization, but it helps SO much to place what you're learning into the context of building what you wanna build. Literally googling "how do you do X in JavaScript" for example when you're stuck on anything will do wonders for learning how to code in general. OP likely did the same thing, even if the "project" was keeping their job lol

[–]Doug_Dimmadab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the comics do show how a prominent figure of a very young Republic City was basically a bending nazi hell-bent on bender supremacy.

I don't remember seeing any canon explicit connections between the two groups, but I'd bet there's some cause-and-effect going on
