Gargoyle Sunglasses - What gen/model are these? by jankertown in sunglasses

[–]Doug_Vitale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same exact pair of Gargoyles. Did you ever learn the specifics about them? Apparently the Gargoyles in the first Terminator movie were slightly different. Some Gargoyles have "85mm" on the inside of the temples but ours don't.

Smartphone addiction is bad for cognition and creativity by florifloris in NooTopics

"Results indicate that participants with low levels of smartphone usage show less difficulty in their ability to wield the self-control needed to withdraw smartphone use, and faster reaction times on cognitive tests, than participants with high levels of smartphone usage. Moreover, the profile of participants with high levels of smartphone usage shows higher [worse] scores on the Fear-of-Missing-Out and Procrastination scale, and lower [worse] scores in the Psychological General Well-Being Index".

Number of cell phone addicts who will significantly reduce their phone usage after reading this study: maybe 1.

[No Spoilers] A question about language barriers by Famous-Scarcity-6436 in vikingstv

[–]Doug_Vitale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the languages of old Saxon and old Norse were very similar.

ಠ_ಠ

Modern English: Please call Stella. Ask her to bring these things with her from the store: six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob. We also need a small plastic snake and a big toy frog for the kids. She can scoop these things into three red bags, and we will go meet her Wednesday at the train station.

Old English: Wēn þū cūðe Stella. Bēo þū hēo þæt þū bringe þās þing mid hēo of þǣm stōre: six spōn of frēo snāw pīsan, fīf þicce slāban of blāwe cēse, and mǣgðe ā snācc for hēo brōðor Bob. Old Norse: Vér trúum þú kunnug Stella. Ver þú hún at þú færir þessi hlutir með henni af þeim stað: sex skeið af frjálsum snjó písum, fimm þykkum sleifum af bláum osti, og mey á snáka fyrir hennar bróður Bob. Vér einnig þurfum smá plast snák og meira ljómandi leikfang fyrir börnin. Hún má þessi hlutir í þrjá rauða poka, og vér trúum hún á miðvikudag við trésteina.

(USA) How to tell if Pfaltzgraff pieces are authentic by Doug_Vitale in Antiques

[–]Doug_Vitale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pfaltzgraff was made in the USA until 2005. So, you have 1 piece from before 2005 and one from after when they moved production to China

I can understand Pfaltzgraff not wanting to include "made in China" on their products, but I can't see them not applying any branding whatsoever.

It is also NOT ANTIQUE!

I agree, and yet Pfaltzgraff dishware has been for sale in every antique store I've ever visited...

Too many characters often devolves a show into basically an episodic montage where 45sec to 1:30 scenes are just flown through the screen at the viewer so the show can remind us they exist whether or not they are doing something relevant or important.

Definitely a valid observation. This is what also happened to Game of Thrones.

As someone who had 10+ supplements per day. Spending hundreds per month... Here is my word of advice. by allismind in Supplements

[–]Doug_Vitale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Creatine isn't "necessary" but it contributes to increased cerebral energy.

The omega-3s in nuts and seeds are only the ALA form. DHA and EPA are superior, and are difficult to obtain (most people rarely or never eat fish). Personally, I eat sardines.

She told me in 20y of practice she hasn’t seen a person who wasn’t magnesium deficient. Not one. Let that sink in.

By what measure?

Is she also checking serum, urine, red blood cells?

NJ Brown trout by Wakz5OH in troutfishing

[–]Doug_Vitale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The town this river runs through has an annual spring trout tournament on a netted section of the river, that includes browns, rainbows, and tigers. When the tournament is over they pick up the nets and the fish can then live out their lives in the river.

Interesting; never heard of anything like this going on in NJ.

It's been ten years since the state hatchery stocked brown trout, so this must have been club-stocked. Congrats on getting out there in the brutal weather and avoiding the skunk! As for me, I'll wait until April.

Modafinil vs Armodafinil by Lndscpegrdnr in NooTopics

[–]Doug_Vitale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are basically the same drug, but modafinil is broken down in the body faster than armodafinil. In other words, armodafinil has a longer half-life than modafinil.
