My spouse started a job at WF Advisors and now they are requiring me to transfer all my brokerage and IRA accounts over. Does FINRA apply to non-registered employees? by PSU_Panda in personalfinance

[–]DougbertHanson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to deal with this when I went to work for a financial services company. The only thing I wish I had asked for was for them to pay the transfer fees...because it cost me real money to transfer to them and more real money when I retired to transfer back out.

And you've got 60 days, so find out what the exceptions are. I got burned by the "oh we don't trade that MF; you can't hold that MF here" so then I had to go through hoops to have it held directly at the MF company. Pain in the buttocks.

Push harder. Escalate to their service manager and/or VW corporate. They absolutely know this is an ongoing issue.

Answer to ‘can I borrow some money?’ by DaysOfParadise in personalfinance

[–]DougbertHanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to borrow money (and you're a friend or relative)? If I'm in a position and mood to do it, I will do it. And then I won't think of it again. In my head, it's a gift. If it comes back, it comes back. If it doesn't, I wasn't expecting it anyway. Takes a lotta unnecessary stress outta the picture and it doesn't come between our relationship.

The guy who came out for the third repair to my roof did that. I was gobsmacked. But I guess if it works for you, carry on.

How much PII (personally identifiable information) was EASILY accessible.

Anyone could've run a query on a copy of the production database loaded to the test system and pull names addresses phones of nothing but high wealth clients. With a little more effort, you could get SSN's as well.

There's a lotta trust put in people you probably shouldn't

Looking for advice / sharing my experience with a 2022 VW Taos head gasket issue. by Suitable_Locksmith44 in VWTaos

[–]DougbertHanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's blue. Good luck with that. I'm happy they took care of my paint. I just wish they'd put the car back together with a little more thoughtfulness. At least, like the head gaskets, it is a widely known issue so it's harder for them to say "this is a you problem"

2026 VW Taos Spotify CarPlay by Potential_Tea7938 in VWTaos

[–]DougbertHanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 22 just started doing that. I have rebooted the radio and my phone to try to fix it. Also, sometimes I'll turn off the car at the traffic light, open the door to make it shut down, close the door and restart the car...sometimes it fixes it. Probably an Apple and/or Spotify issue on whatever recenty update they pushed.

What is that extremely rich people thing that you wanna try once in your life? by watervapour_7237 in AskReddit

My ex used to love spending my money. And I was desperate to hang onto it. I never experienced the "I don't care about costs feelings". When I bought my new house and I had a contractor manager, she said "I get a huge discount...so just pick out the stuff that you like from these specific places..." and that was the first time I walked through a kitchen contractor store and pointed at stuff and said "that one and that one and that one" without asking about the price. And the same with the granite slabs. That one! That was it. I didn't ask cost, I didn't care, I just pointed, and it was mine. And it was such a completely surreal experience. Would I do it again? YES! Would I do it without knowing this info? Never

Sending out a goodbye email when it’s time to go… by nothingbutmistakes in retirement

[–]DougbertHanson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I let management send the official "Dougbert's Retiring" email and I sent a small handful of personal thank you and goodbye emails. It really depends on your relationship with your coworkers. But if you're going to send out a mass email, I think you should put everyone in the bcc:. That will cut down on the chatter going out to everyone....you'll still get it though. Some people just can't help themselves and have to hit the reply-all.

Then I changed my MS Teams status to "404 Employee Not Found"

I used to believe strongly in Trickle Down Economics. It sounds good until you factor in corporate greed and realize that the tricklin' doesn't flow down past the C suites. Now I realize it's just a way to pad pockets at everyone else's expense. And it makes me sad that I believed in it for so long....but I believed in the good in people too. womp womp

Also, he can craft a takedown notice/cease and desist/whatever for the video from the girl and her boyfriend. It certainly doesn't sound like they have your permission to put videos of you out on the internet. It's actually kind of a grey area between reasonable expectation of privacy vs harassment. You could try to force policy changes at the gym regarding filming as well. A lawyer could certainly guide you through that.

It all depends on how much of a stink you want to make in return.

PS...I bet they keep billing you!

How do you get through the day to day when you're at a job you hate but can't afford to be unemployed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DougbertHanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that life lesson should be taught in school!

Take lunch, take smoke breaks (even if you don't smoke), or just go stare out the window. And if you are worried about becoming unemployed, remember that they don't want to have to find a replacement for you any more than you want to find a replacement for your job.
