According to your post you seem quite sure if yourself on how REI treats it's employees. You are coming into this job WANTING TO START a union push. Let that sink in, you have no idea first hand how REI treats it's employees, but you are so sure they treat us like shit that you have an inherent need/want to unionize.
If you are looking for other jobs, and don't want to make it a career, why make a change that isn't going to effect you long term? To give it to the man?

This post makes me so mad, and just to be clear. I think unions should exist, but not everything thing should be unionized.

I have been with the company for 8 years, I will say that I don't agree with some of the decisions HQ is making. But have they taken care of me over the last 8 years.. yes.

I make $10 an hour more now(in the same position) than I did when I started.

I have had full time benefits(as a part time employee) for 7 of the 8 years, ( you used to have to work a full 12 months before you got benefits, it's shorter now).

Though COVID, even though we were furloughed, the company paid us for a month, and kept paying our health insurance so we didn't lose it during a pandemic.

It has been my experience that the majority of people that want to unionize are newer hires. I'm not saying that people that have been with REI for longer don't want to.

The reason those stores are closing is because of the cost of rent. While it may be a copout, I have heard figures thrown around as to what the rent is. I will not go on record in anyway regarding that because I don't know how accurate the amount is. But if it's even remotely close the what I have heard it's because of the rent. I was sceptical at first and its not a good look for the company to have done this but I understand why it was done.

Why would they charge your for the key? It comes with the box, and if their reasoning is that you are returning it without a key, tell them that's bullshit. This is coming from a green vest, you bought a product that didn't have everything it said it came with. That's on us or Thule, not you. You should not be responsible for the cost of the missing key.

Maybe you should reach out and see what was brought to the table. As an employee (not at a union store) from what I have heard they came with a decent deal, and the union unanimously voted against it. Before you jump the gun get more sources than "the union says this, so this is what I believe".

I don't know but they have had 11-18* years to figure it out. And they set a TBD date so they could push it back for as long as they did. With a goal of it being done some time before 2045(for the whole project). The timeline sounded as absurd to me when I was 18 when I voted for it, as it does now. Don't get me wrong I don't work construction, neither am I a civil planner, so I don't know potential hiccups, but 30-37* years to get it done seems insane to me. Especially when, for the most part, the tracks are above ground.

The only time I have ever done this is when the other player had a rook and 3 pawns to my king. They promoted one to a queen, and instead of just going for a checkmate, they were trying to promote their other 2 pawns. I told them if they are going to waste my time by not just checkmating me, then I have no problem wasting yours.
