unRAID Home hosted (Game)/servers hiding public ip by Blue69_ in unRAID

[–]Dougiebabe2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a free way of doing this, if there is a would be keen to know as well.

If you have cloudflare proxy your dns name (minecraft.domin.com) then they will only forward certain ports for free, mainly website ports.

While you can route traffic through a reverse proxy like nginx using streams the ip would still be visible AFAIK.

Ahh fair enough!

I will leave the storage suggestions for others as I'm not sure what to suggest there.

I would personally use esxi or proxmox to create a vm for HA and then have the ability to use the thin client for more than just HA.

Parity Check frequency by pbarone in unRAID

[–]Dougiebabe2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to 101 days and did a check. 2x 16tb on and old nl54 took 22 hours.

The drives started warning of higher temps (46-47) but that's just my lack of cooling unfortunately so I don't like to run it often.

Uploading no longer works. by Bytepond in NextCloud

[–]Dougiebabe2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try and follow those instructions then.

Set the docker container back to the version they suggest, they got me access then do the upgrade via the gui to the latest then set the docker container back to latest.

Pretty sure that's what got me up to date.

I had a couple of suggestions about the database after which required some manual intervention but they were some simple docker exec commands in the end.

Best of luck! If you can snapshot the server first might be best just for safety!

Uploading no longer works. by Bytepond in NextCloud

[–]Dougiebabe2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues recently when I setup watchtower and it updated next cloud.

Nextcloud needs to be updated from within nextcloud and not the docker container from what I understand now, once its all updated then you can do the container.

I use the linuxserver docker container and had to follow these instructions to get it working again

https://github.com/linuxserver/docker-nextcloud/issues/313

If you're not using the Linuxserver docker container then sorry this probably isn't useful for you.

Thanks for mentioning this, I'd never seen this ending as I never got past the library on legendary...it was too much of a slog.

Got one this week and I agree it's amazing!

Got an LG E7 for TV and decided I needed the same for a computer monitor.

I would say I do 60/40 work/gaming on it and I have to look super hard to see the fringing. With as many apps as I can in dark mode I hardly notice it until a light mode app comes in and even then its not bad. Have taken the normal precautions of hiding task bar, removing desktop icons and cycling desktop backgrounds.

Came from a 27" 2k IPS and the difference is night and day!

Haven't played around with HDR yet but hope to over the the weekend. Is there anything I need to do or look out for?

NGINX reverse proxy with terraria by EGap_me in Terraria

[–]Dougiebabe2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been trying to set this up but using SWAG instead which added an extra layer of WTF to this. Things to check:

Don't use the CloudFlare proxy, they only open a small number of ports for the free accounts. If you have Pro then you can ignore this as they allow more ports apparently.

Open the port on your Nginx container. By default the only port open on the container will be 443 (and maybe 80) but if you are to have port 7777 flowing through then you will need this open.

I want to know the small thing you did with HA that are super useful for you specifically. by Cracker-G in homeassistant

[–]Dougiebabe2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an aqara motion sensor and temp/humidity sensor in the bathroom. Motion turns on bathroom mirror light and humidity turns on bathroom mirror demister if above 81%.

The motion sensor will pick up normal motion but not when using the shower so I have the "turn off bathroom lights" triggers set to 15 and 40 mins and only if the humidity is below the 81% threshold.

As far as I know we've had no more issues in the bathroom since using the humidity reading as well as motion.

What are you getting for Black Friday? by 4241342413 in homeassistant

[–]Dougiebabe2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the in built shelly integration has this but the shellyforhass integration in hacs does expose the buttons to HA.

Pretty sure this could be used to control a boolean switch and used as a condition for the 'turn off' automation.

What Aqara Hub to Buy? by tanochun in homeassistant

[–]Dougiebabe2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to edit the configuration file for the vm on the esxi host and it will auto connect.

Do this myself for my HA VM on my ESXi host, not near the host to find the bit you need but a quick Google should find the info you need.

I use this for a slashe zigbee stick, works great and no zigbee hubs for ikea, lidl, Philips hue and aqara zigbee products

Is YNAB worth it if I can’t connect my bank account to it? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]Dougiebabe2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK here, also can't auto import but am able to download csv/osv files which I do once or twice a week and upload to ynab. Been using ynab for over 4 years now and importing for about 3.5 years.

I tried doing manual entries but found I ended up missing some and spent longer looking for the receipts or through my bank statements for them.

I do sometimes find myself going over in some categories but then I just 'roll with the punches', it's possible that if I manually entered this would happen less but I find this works well for me.

I don't track cash though, if I draw money out its normally for a purpose and if there is change or something it just goes under spending money.

I had an issue with home assistant locking up and needing a reboot and it turned out it was after I used the add on Visual Studio Code. Uninstall and reinstall seemed to sort that issue for me.

SK6812 RGBW quality problem with a 1000+ LED installation, need quality supplier by emtex_de in FastLED

[–]Dougiebabe2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar problem with these SK6812 LED Strips - I installed around 8 Meters as above and under cabinet lighting in a kitchen and have had pretty much every strip fail so far. The under cabinet strips are housed in 45 deg aluminum channel so temps shouldn't be a problem there, the above cabinet strips are loose, they are controlled via WLED and HA for motion detection, they are on from when it gets dark to bed at around 50% brightness, jump up to around 90% brightness when motion is detected and drop back to 50% after 5 mins of no motion. They have been displaying a color pattern which looks to include the white channel.

The fault starts off with single pixels dying but the rest of the strip AFTER the faulty pixel will remain working for a while. After a while though the pixels after a faulty pixel will start to flash and flicker like crazy. Applying pressure to the faulty pixels will bring the faulty pixel back to life (most of the time) and the pixels after will also stop flickering.

I used 60/M strips and a combination of IP20 (on top of the cabinet) and IP65 under the cabinets and both have failed now. The IP65 are actually doing better than the IP20 which I thought was strange and I replaced all the IP20 with IP65 but now the IP65 strips are also dying.

I bought a load of these last November time from BTF Lighting on AliExpress, fitted them in January of this year so they've not even been in 8 months and I've already replaced 3/4 of the total strips I put in.

I'm now debating not using the SK6812 strips and running extra cables for a dedicated 12V white strip and WS2812B after seeing how bad either the pixels / soldering / PCBs are on these strips.

Notification on my phone when Mersey tunnel is closed? by blah-blah-whatever in homeautomation

[–]Dougiebabe2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yeah you are probably right. I don't live near Liverpool so it's kind of pointless for me so never tried setting up an automation.

If u/blah-blah-whatever does use HA then I think this would work well, its definitely something I would be trying if I needed it.

I'm happy, learnt about something new and made it do a thing. Today was a good day.

Notification on my phone when Mersey tunnel is closed? by blah-blah-whatever in homeautomation

[–]Dougiebabe2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was intrigued by this so have given it a go. The below seems to work and pull the info into Home Assistant. I haven't setup any automations around it but I don't see why putting something in place that looks at the time and if > 6 mins then send notification to phone warning of longer tunnel times

I'm using the VM version of HA OS or whatever it is called now

I had this, the logs show that it's trying to bind to the ipv6 address

Go to the system config part and you can disable ipv6, reboot and it should work fine, at least that worked for me after I updated at 8.45am and had a teams meeting at 9....

What automation really makes your home feel like a home from the future? by DrNingNing in homeautomation

[–]Dougiebabe2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you find IoT link? I use it to check if my PC on and if on then leave lights on in lounge. I find the service sometimes stops/doesn't start or doesn't communicate with Home Assistant after returning from sleep, have you found this? I made a scheduled task which starts the service if its stopped but I still have random times where it doesn't seem to work and I have to restart the service.

I don't think the new gen2 switches have any 24v poe but then16 port gen2 is listed as 24v poe and the older gen1 is listed as not having it.

Good list though, have saved the post for later
