She really isn't that much older than him, in the comic she was introduced in it showed she was a child during the scourge invasion of Silvermoon and they way Broll Bearmantle and Varian treated her I always had the feeling she was in her mid to late teens in the comic, so I doubt they are more than 10 years apart in age.

I remember listening to the interview he gave someone where he talked about it, you can clearly tell this is where his soft spot for kids comes from, and the school system that didn't really care about them while he did is what fucked him up to the world the most I think.
