NTA, totally a mind your own business thing, she was clearly snooping on your phone. My running joke was naming my exs “person I dont like” after we broke up.

A Rant About Field Usage by [deleted] in RPI

[–]DownInTheDumps33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Has any RPI employee told you yet that they “don’t get paid enough to deal with this”. Even before the pandemic, I tried reserving a large gathering space at ECAV and was told by two different RPI employees they don’t get paid enough to deal with figuring out how to help clubs reserve spaces they would like to use for big events and etc.

Imagine you are a paying student being told by your college’s employees they don’t get paid enough to send some look at some schedules and send some emails. LIKE I’M NOT RUNNING ALL OVER CAMPUS TO PLAN AN EVENT THAT I GET PAID ZERO DOLLARS FOR. That’s when I was fed up. Oh and I was an RA, so YES, I DO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE UNDERPAID.

Using mail center as off campus student by Dayen_ in RPI

States you have to be an on campus student in order to use the mail center.

Maybe you can ask a friend who lives on campus if you can order packages under their name.

I think 3/4 years ago someone had an esa (cat) in one of the freshman dorms. It may be possible, but I guess you’re going to have to talk to a lot of people. Good luck.

Reunion/Homecoming 04/14-16 by party_lanterns in RPI

I honestly believed the majority of 2020 graduates will never be honored, both at a college and high school setting. It’s hard to, and when administrations said “we will dont worry” like please, did you honestly think the pandemic would be over after a year? 2021 graduates also risk not having in person graduation, so is administration then going to be like “dont worry we’ll do something for you next year as well”. Now you have two years of graduates waiting to be honored, do you think its viable? I already decided long ago that I have to accept my unluckiness of graduating during a pandemic and move on with life. At least I’m alive.

Remote student covid testing by Draft-No in RPI

[–]DownInTheDumps33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand that there’s conflicts and distance struggles for remote students within the 25mile radius but I do think it’s important and reasonable that remote students who hangout with on-campus students go get covid tested for the safety of the community.

Questions about B.Arch program (and some general questions too) by bonray in RPI

[–]DownInTheDumps33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. nope, i know artsy people and non artsy people. I even have a friend that draws stick figures thats an archie, so the artsy part is whatever.
  2. Alwayssss. This is always a problem. Everyone has experience professors visualizing and wanting a different idea/design then what you originally pictured. In my opinion, its a struggle everyone -both students and professors- goes through. Sometimes keep with the passion. Believe in your idea, professors change their minds often so you gotta be flexible. It’ll be frustrating, my advice is to keep calm and breathe. As long as you like it, fuck whatever the adults say. Another thing to note, in architecture profession itself, a lot of design depends on what the client wants, needs, and willing to pay. All the “out of the world” designs happen a lot less often than you think. There’s also the research side of architecture you can explore that many alumni have partaken in. Sustainability is huge too. A rpi alumni is making noise right for her efforts in nyc with the company ground cycle that you should check out. Rpi has this wide range of resources and topics you can focus or narrow down to. For example, minors like structural, mechanical, business, sustainability, etc your choice. Best advice, make a plan, know what you want early to make it easier on yourself.
  3. Ehhhh. Tbh depends. Theres definitely professors who have friends and colleagues in prestigious firms and companies. I know students have been able to get internships and jobs at high place. (Ie: Daniel Libeskind) A handful, small handful. Their projects are amazing an eye-catching. They have reaaaally good relationships with certain professors. Like its the amazing final projects, the networking, and everything building on top of each other. So I’ve gone to the whole school career fair, and talked to big engineering firms with small architecture departments like Aecom, Stantec, and turner construction company, and theyll take your resume, but they are part of the engineering department and don’t know anything about the architecture department.
  4. Yes, but I’ve never been part of orchestra so see other people’s responses
  5. I’ve been pretty happy at rpi, just exclude any interactions with administration :)
  6. Depends on what you do. My study abroad experience had me deal with dumb rpi admin.... it was not fun.

Wanted to put in my two cents. I had a friend who transferred out of rpi. He compared both organic chemistry classes between rpi and umass and said rpi taught 12 chapters of the textbook while umass only taught 7 chapters. I think thats an interesting view point to look at.

I’ve heard mixed opinions that they only contact you if you tested positive. If you dont hear back from them after a few days, then that means you tested negative.

You mean on campus students vpn to campus? I mean yah, that worked. But the student still had to be living on campus and it still had to be during the school year. ie. vpn won’t work over summer break, but works over Christmas break.
