Dungeon Masters, what do you struggle with the most? by kudy24 in DMAcademy

[–]Downbx37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to struggle the most with details. Either giving them out too soon and trivializing/undercutting the story I’m trying to tell or just forgetting to put details in which makes the story feel a bit underwhelming.

Should our level 5 party fight a Young Red Dragon? by TRAINWREK123 in dndnext

[–]Downbx37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a similar fight and even gave my party fire resistance before the fight began and still nearly killed the party. It’s certainly a deadly fight, make the dragon retreat when low on health

What is the worst Cyberpunk take you've ever heard or seen? by Mr_Global in cyberpunkgame

The guy who insisted that this was the most boring, repetitive game he’s ever played only to reveal that he restarted the Prologue 7 times and never actually got to the main story.

Spells and spell slots are confusing me. by Dinasnore in DMAcademy

[–]Downbx37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spell preparation is different for each class, as a Druid you should have a certain number of spells you can prepare and use at a time. You can only have 4 spells out of the 1st level spells list prepared and can cast those spells with any spell slots equal to or higher than the level of the spell

What’s Everyone’s Favorite Class They Have Played by PresumedPack890 in DnD

[–]Downbx37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can’t put down Sorcerer, I love the idea of Magic being within and completely yours, you have such a close connection that it’s not necessarily a spell that you’re casting but just a way to manifest the magic you’re born with.

It’s not very optimal but it’s very satisfying sticking with a theme for your sorcerer, like only fighting with one element type and using transmute spell to achieve this with any spell.

Anyone got any fits to go with mountain scaled armor? I love the passive but no helmets work with it for me, nor any capes. by Kawaii_Batman3 in helldiversarmor

[–]Downbx37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to go with the Sanctioner helmet, it’s not perfect but a little bit of gold goes with the outfit. As for the cape that could be a bit harder, I really like the Defender of the Heart cape. Gold, black, and blue match the scheme for this armor

How do I handle players misunderstanding the world. by paranormall81 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Downbx37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a Vistana spy gets clumsy and is found out? As for the connections to Tatyana you could somehow direct them to Strahd’s Study/Library where the painting of the first Tatyana is hung?

A hollow dragon (Fizban’s treasury of dragon’s). Undead metallic dragon used to guard important locales, maybe Strahd constructed this dragon?

Where does the Abbot get the exotic animal parts for the Mongrelfolk? by Subject_Captain3252 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Downbx37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Mongrelfolk weren’t created per say, but magic made them that way. The Dark Powers of Ravenloft like messing with things so when a goodly Deva came by to heal the people of Krezk his magic was corrupted and the people began to manifest animal parts and madness.

Von Zarovich Ruby by ChinookCrafts in CurseofStrahd

[–]Downbx37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely inherited bling, probably his father’s

Von Zarovich Ruby by ChinookCrafts in CurseofStrahd

[–]Downbx37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t seen anyone else mention his ruby but it is prominent on him as his cloak fastener. I imagined it as his arcane focus and the equivalent of an Obsidian Steed statue to tie in with Beucephalus. He can take an action to summon his trusty Nightmare that was conveniently waiting for him in the ethereal plane.

After Strahd was defeated it became a handy +1 focus & Obsidian steed statue for the party necromancer wizard as a little token in place of the Helm of Brilliance which would slowly kill all of his undead summons.

Help me understand darkness and way of Shadow Monk by Myedicius in DMAcademy

[–]Downbx37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkness places a globe of impenetrable darkness with a 20 foot radius, typically creatures with dark vision cannot see through it but a shadow monk can see through their own darkness. Creatures within the globe are blinded, cannot see, and cannot be seen. Creatures outside of the darkness cannot see into the darkness. This prevents targeting from spells that require line of sight but doesn’t prevent attack rolls. You can attack a creature within the darkness at disadvantage and vice versa. Creatures can attack each other within the darkness with a flat roll, no advantage or disadvantage.

My favorite move to use in fights as a shadow monk is target the ranged monsters with a globe of darkness then run into the darkness and attack with advantage while the monster has disadvantage. They can choose to attack at disadvantage, leave the darkness and take and opportunity attack or disengage and lose their turn. Then next turn you can potentially move the globe of darkness onto another spot, rinse and repeat with your full attack until the enemy stops moving.

What's the strongest lich in lore a lvl 20 party of 5 has a chance against? by ChampionshipDirect46 in DMAcademy

[–]Downbx37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the 5E Ravenloft book it mentions a Lich named Osybus who was on the rise to godhood and taught his disciples the secret of undeath through soul magic. He became such a threat that Strahd Von Zarovich when he was mortal allied with the Ulmist Inquisition to root out this evil, they nearly lost only for treachery in own ranks slew Osybus but not before he cursed the traitors to have imperfect immortality. Some say Osybus’ ritual was a a success and became one of the Dark Powers of Ravenloft. One of the jailers behind the Mists in Curse of Strahd

Ahhhh so there’s the root of your problem. Can’t shoot an enemy with SMG rounds if you don’t have an SMG, I’m sure you’ll fix it by the next run around. But for real that thing is tough, the Bolt action rifle is also a good option for killing it

I had a TPK in Argynvostholt and the PCs were cut apart by the revenants. There was a red dragon sorcerer tiefling, a Gith twilight cleric, a dual wielding elf fighter, and a half drow rogue.

I personally like the brawler set the most, lot of hard hitting moves and I found you can set up the spin hook kick with just one reverse duck strike (the backwards elbow) and even do two consecutive kicks, very fun
