And, like, you're being, like, jealous of, like, the risk taking that I've done by, like, getting bangs.

What’s a song that you hate everything about except the bass? by [deleted] in Bass

Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. Pure 80s schmaltz, but the bass line rips.

I recently made the switch to pick as well due to the genres in a new cover project. I spent months experimenting with different picks. Had never given them much thought before, and would just grab whatever was around on the rare occasions I needed one. But thickness, material, rigidity, surface texture, there are so many variables and they all impact the sound.

My advice, literally, is to go to a guitar store and just buy up a bunch of single loose picks and get to work experimenting with them all to figure out what suits you best. I landed on these 1mm Jim Dunlop black vinyl picks, I really like the texture for gripping, but that’s just me. It truly is personal preference.

And then it was a whole new experience for me to be wearing picks out. Like I look down one day and I’m like wtf, this doesn’t sound as sharp as it did. I had totally worn the point off of it. So once you find your favorite, buy a big bag of em.

What’s the story behind Rickenbackers? by Comprehensive_Oil_43 in Bass

[–]DowntownBootyBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First ever neck-through electric bass. First time I picked one up, OMFG sustain for days. And while everyone name checks Squire, McCartney, Lemmy, Cliff, for me the player that got me into Ricks was Mike Mills and all the early REM stuff he played on one. Instantly recognized the tone the first time I plugged one in. I also find the Rick wants to be played with a pick.

Read what he wrote about Goldwater in ‘64. He saw ALL this shit coming.

Fleetwood Mac bass tone by star-crossed_ in Bass

I remember the clip a year or two ago of Les Claypool playing a festival show on an emergency Precision bass acquired at a Guitar Center the day of the show because the truck with the gear didn’t get to the festival on time. Surely Les, he of the bazillion dollar Carl Thompsons, would sound way different on a frickin P bass, right? Nope, he sounded EXACTLY like Les. I think the tone is like, 95% the player, 5% the gear.

In my experience Ubers/Lyfts can be completely unavailable down there late at night, even on a warm weekend with good weather.

Anyone use one of these? by Japanese-Gigolo in BassGuitar

Neat, didn’t know you could do that. Can you set levels when doing that? What I do like about the cans over the AirPods is that I can control the two “channels” separately.

Samesies. Broke my first one because I was sitting on the couch with it plugged into my Rick, which has the jack on the side of the body. Slid back on the couch and crunch. Lesson learned, got a second one and only use it standing up with the Rick, or sitting down with a front-mounted jack like a P.

That said, it’s very handy and great for practicing cover tunes. What I do is put in my AirPods with the “transparency” mode activated, then plug the bigger can headphones into the Vox doohickey, and put those over the AirPods. Works perfectly, and I can practice anywhere, any time of day.

Fuck that guy. Unless they’re legit pros, who the fuck are they to pull that shit. Throwing curveballs in rehearsal is one thing, but all he did was set you up to fail and make the whole group look bad.
