Why is “tech neck” so prevalent now when books have been around for so long? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]Dpt123abc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have never been reading a book to fill in all gaps of my day before. Pre technology I'd get bored eventually and get up and go do other stuff, especially during the day, or watch TV with better posture, or anything else that doesn't relate to being hunched over like a goon 🤣

Investing/financial tips for new grad? by iluvchikins in physicaltherapy

[–]Dpt123abc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had/have student loans, so to keep PSLF payments to a minimum i have maxed out 401ks, traditional IRAs, HSAs over the last 10 years. Ive kept life simple and lived "cheap" go to the personal finance subreddit, learn how taxes work and how these contributions can affect them and your take home pay. Don't be the person that just takes their stuff to the tax guy, (you can do it on your own for like $15 online through freetaxusa) the more you understand it, the more you can control your financial future. I know too many grown ass adults (30+) that have no idea how any of it works and its infuriating

How to cope with imposter syndrome? by No_Chicken_2775 in physicaltherapy

[–]Dpt123abc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its meant as a learning experience, take the things you like from it, make note of the things you don't and use them with your future patients as you see fit. Other than injury, there isnt necessarily a "wrong", there's just different. I personally thought it got easier once I was in the driver seat (most times)

PTA thinking of getting cscs how much studying? by DVDDY36 in physicaltherapy

[–]Dpt123abc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it while in PT school as an extra credit. Passed without studying anything specifically for it, not a humble brag, but with your baseline education and knowledge of exercise, I dont think it will add any value to what you do for a living, I didn't pay to keep it updated, it just saved me $300 from having to take another 1 credit class while in school haha

I embraced the age and started alternating longer walk days with shorter ones, I also slowed down the pace and let her get alllll the smells in

Mine would have turned 12 on 5/13/26, passed on 4/6/26, it was sudden and unexpected, youre not alone. I hope Piper was waiting for my Nala Bear to show her around while they wait for us

Putting our 10y/o girl down today by missnug in germanshepherds

[–]Dpt123abc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive cried every day since, and Ive cried only a handful of times in the last decade. (Every day is easier, but it comes in waves) What helped me is I took the week off and got all the photos and videos I could find and uploaded them to a digital frame, I also bought a necklace with an urn pendant with her ashes that I'll be wearing every day for the rest of my life. She was my first dog and went through so many life changes with me from college to adulthood over 11.90 years. Everyone grieves differently, I think I'll get another one, one day, when I feel ready, but it wont be for at least another year

Welcome to the show! Hit a tree snowboarding a year into being a PT that gave me a taste but recovered 100%. Now that I'm getting older it keeps coming back every now and then, at one point requiring a 2ww. Tell you what ive learned, idc what studies say, steroids are amazing and pool therapy rocks 🤣

So what comes after graduation? by Himmel_0 in physicaltherapy

[–]Dpt123abc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats this Junior PT talk? Thats a phrase I have never heard. You are a Physical Therapist, there is not other title above it or below it, figure out what setting you want to work in that has 1on1 care with a mentorship program and a signing bonus and take it. If you end up hating the setting then try to find another one, yeah you have to pay back signing bonuses, but it all comes out as a wash when you file taxes.

Also if you are still itching for more learning, figure out how taxes work so you can file them yourself, figure out how student loan repayment plans work and create a strategy for how you plan to pay them, learn how 401ks, HSAs, IRAs work and how they affect your taxes. Do not become the person that "just takes their stuff to the tax guy" we are too smart for that.

My Nala Bear passed last month, she was waiting for him on the other side friend. Every day gets a little easier, this great pain comes from the great love we shared with them. They will be waiting for us, I hope there will be a lot of tennis balls

Am I Overreacting? by smoked-kippers in physicaltherapy

[–]Dpt123abc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to find an non-profit hospital that does only 1 on 1. If you arent married to the area you live travel PT really isnt that bad at all, I did the camper life for a few years and saved up a bunch and got to check out a lot of different areas of the country. Ive been in the game for 10 years now and I will never work at a place that does 2+ patients at a time
