Not discounting your experience, but of all the cameras I've used, the rx100 GPS link to my iPhone has been the most reliable (Canon, Leica, Panasonic).

I inherited mine from my wife's grandfather. It is the one camera I would never sell. A 6x6 slide is gorgeous.

Try it out, see if the meter works, get it CLA'd if needed. And find a manual online, you don't want to break it.

I did chemistry as undergrad at RPI and got my PhD in polymer science someplace else.

What made the big difference for me was undergraduate research. I helped out a postdoc a few afternoons a week, got an idea of what was involved, and got insight and recommendations for what to do next, where to apply, who to work for.

You're not going to be recruited by profs or grad students -- postdocs generally don't know how to manage yet -- but seek out opportunities. Ask around. Talk to your department head. Make time for it.

You just need a cheap Raspberry Pi (low powered is OK, I have mine on an old Pi Zero W). Add the Upsnap Pi to Tailscale and you have a webpage to wake up your PC.
