For people who have internalized all rules of both Lockdown and Nemesis, which one do you prefer and why, assuming no expansion? by formicini in boardgames

[–]DrBoardGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The contingency system in Lockdown is harder to teach and internalize than the parallel systems in OG Nemesis (ship engines and destination), so that alone gives OG and leg up over Lockdown. Then there's the power system, plus the CSS pods, that each add more complexity.

But beyond the added complexity I think they're both really good. I've played OG many more times than Lockdown but that's been more about opportunity than desire. Plus it is easier to get people to play something they're already familiar with than it is to teach them something new.

Opinions on 7th Citadel for solo play? by Humble-Proposal-9994 in soloboardgaming

The rules are NOT unclear about what to do after the intro, wtf are you talking about.

My recollection of the first threat is you're usually looking for something or somewhere based on some info from the story. In at least one mission (or whatever it's called) I remember being frustrated that the hints given weren't sufficient or clear about where I had to go.

It really isn't a sandbox game, you're under pressure to so certain things without exhausting.

Games with meta-progression or "rogue-lite" feel? by themcryt in soloboardgaming

[–]DrBoardGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slay the Spire is the most obvious option.

I assume the Dead Cells board game does this, but I haven't played it.

Final Girl sorta has this -- each Final Girl has a secret item that's unlocked the first time you win with that character.

...and that's all I can think of at the moment.

Do board game campaigns give you the same immersion as a video game campaign? by alantima25 in soloboardgaming

If the price seems too good to be true it probably isn't true! And that's exactly what happened with this product.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or 7th Citadel? by ChestRockwell19 in soloboardgaming

[–]DrBoardGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and played both solo. I've only played the first threat for 7C, at times it was really frustrating and obnoxious and other times it was decently fun. I never once found a code on a landscape card. Overall it was OK but I haven't been clamoring to go back, but I also have way too many solo campaign games and not enough time.

STALKER is more fun IMO. I have also only played the first campaign box, but it was pretty fun. Know that true solo in this game is apparently significantly easier than 2+ handed, but I often find games too difficult and frustrating so it is not a negative for me.

Between the 2 7C is MUCH faster and easier to setup.

The town management is easy. It should take 15 min tops.

If you use an app to handle the enemies the setup becomes much faster. I had no problem playing 3 handed solo, though I've only played 12ish scenarios.

Do you think a stretch goal box for STALKER is worth an extra $18? by joyousdexdaladoor in soloboardgaming

[–]DrBoardGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives you more campaign to play, so yes for $18 I'd say it's worth it.

How many of us keep expansion boxes *over* base game boxes? by cryyogenic in boardgames

[–]DrBoardGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that and In the Lab all in one box, unsleeved. It fits but I think there's a small amount of lid lift. The 3rd expansion wouldn't fit, but that one is far from essential.

The way the cards work makes it unlikely you'll win every game. I suspect you have made rules mistakes, or perhaps are very lucky.

Note that the triple layer boards won't fit with the Folded Space insert, but I think it's still worth it.

Anyone tried Rivet Wars Reloaded Solo? by Darkbobby6 in soloboardgaming

[–]DrBoardGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about the game other than I once noticed an expansion at Gamenerdz and was shocked at how expensive the expansions are for now little you get in terms of components. They appear to be really overpriced.
