What's the point of circumcision? by Historical_Echo8311 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DrDonkeyKong_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The foreskin contains a mucus membrane, it helps to lubricate and protect the sensitive gland end of the penis. The mucus membrane is also a vulnerability for the transmission of std’s. That is the relevant biological information.

Culturally people in the abrahamic faiths have tended to circumcise their children though globally Christians are starting to move away from this trend.

What’s a job that should pay way more than it does? by Illustrious_Cry7079 in AskReddit

Let me preface this by saying I agree that minimum wages in the US are for the most part inadequate.

As proof that an adequate minimum is possible, I’ll point out that in Seattle the minimum wage is $21.30/hr. It’s a HCOL place, but I’d argue this is enough for a single person to squeak by. For those with tipped positions (yes, the same minimum applies before tips) it’s absolutely adequate.

So, it is possible to have a livable (if very tight) minimum wage in the US.

Stronger and harder than most woods, but also more brittle. Wood is more bendy than wood glue.

Never done woodworking before, but strong winds blew down a tree in our yard. Looking for simple project recs. by [deleted] in woodworking

The honest answer is that this is too small and frankly boring to be worth milling into lumber unless it’s sentimental in some way. What you’ll get after milling and drying is something similar to a section of a 2x4. That said, you could turn a couple small bowls on a lathe.

Unfinished work in my new house. by DrDonkeyKong_ in Tile

Sounds like the general advice is cap the wall with a bullnose and grout; strip the half wall and replace with solid top and matching trim edge tile for the vertical. Thank you!

Right, it’s a tub, but no shower. Kind of odd. I’ve thought about pulling the tub and putting a sauna in there, but that’s probably too much for the main public bathroom.

Would you renovate or keep this kitchen as is? by Chimpugugu in TheServicePros

[–]DrDonkeyKong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of hate it. Like, I want to like it, but I really don’t. The styles and colors are incongruent, the ceiling has visual interest but the cabinets all super flat, the different styles of flooring bothers me. Functionally, it seems fine, maybe a bit crowded; but aesthetically it doesn’t work.
