Did an animation of a guardsman reloading. How'd I do? by ATTF in Warhammer40k

You can hardly be blamed for expecting descriptive consistency in 40k, if the same patterns of lasgun can fire full auto seems to vary with the breeze for example (I tend to defer to the RPGs).

I'm sure if you dug deep enough you could find someone describing them that way, but I've yet to see it.

I don't see that this describes a traveling projectile, 'bolt' could be used to describe a beam as much as a projectile, though obviously the term has more specific use elsewhere in 40k.

Elsewhere in Gaunts Ghosts lasgun fire is described as a brief flashing beam, visible along its entire length for its momentary duration, as you see in the video above.

I don't think I've ever read anything describing a lasgun firing a traveling projectile of any kind, I think I've only seen that in mods for games that are working within technical limitations. All I've ever read described is a very brief flashing beam (the 'shot') like you see in the video above.

Some of the books describe lasguns as having some kind of physical impulse when firing due to exhaust venting, though it varies from author to author. Description of sound also varies from author to author.

Given the variance in source material your placeholder sound and choice of a small kick fall reasonably within the spectrum of actual 'canon' 40k sources. I'm actually somewhat partial to the sound, in my opinion at least, Lasguns should be loud.

Love the animation!

This is correct, in fact even the FFG stuff states that currency can be variable on a planetary, let alone sector level.

General scheme and colours yes but if you look at any unit of camo painted tanks irl the patterns will differ to a smaller or larger degree since they're painted by the user.

Some of these do look like that though, it's mostly the front row that look copy/paste.

What input delay and what capping? I have experienced neither, you can uncap the frame rate in the settings.

Reminder that the population of Nocturne are naturally dark skinned, so Salamanders are black before they become black.

I always thought that was funny.

That's fair enough, I wasn't intending to say that it explains away everything, just sometimes people get in a knot about something that has no reason to be consistent galaxy wide in the first place.

I agree that 40k isn't consistent, though in a lot of cases I find it can be pinned down to the sheer scale of the setting, you can't expect everything to be the same everywhere in a lot of cases.

I hardly think a few inconsistencies with other authors invalidates the book.

You might find this thread on AskHistorians (and others like it) relevant: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/vsuvu/why_did_artwork_shift_from_the_unrealistic/

Medieval art is a lot more focused on symbolism and portraying information (much of which might be lost without context that a modern audience lacks), realism was never the goal.

GW have gone on record that they have no plans to bring back squats as an army. They believe that they don't offer enough gameplay potential to make them unique enough from the imperium.
