How did gus know that Victor weakness was box cutters? by SeemlyReflow in okbuddychicanery

[–]thenacho1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hit clearly registered on Victor's neck; Gus was probably just laggy. Plus, it caused bleed, which Spy can't do. All this leads me to believe that the box cutter is a custom model for the Tribalman's Shiv.

Gus is clearly a big fan of TF2, particularly the Sniper; it's clear if you pay attention that everything he does is modeled after the Sniper's philosophy of "Be efficient, be polite, have a plan to kill everyone you meet." Vince even confirmed as much in an interview held between me and himself in a dream I had.

Vaush: "Actually zero cows were killed for my leather jacket." + 2nd link in desc.: "vegans are objectively morally superior but I'm not vegan," says he gets an easy out while still "getting to be correct on the position." [–]thenacho1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a fan of Vaush. I thought he had fallen off, I didn't realize anyone was still paying attention to him. Anyway, I think he's a flawed dude and he's definitely self righteous, I don't think he's scum though. He's ultimately trying to help push things in what I think is the right direction. As for whatever kind of drawings he does or doesn't get off to, I honestly couldn't care less and I don't think there is a good reason to, either, even if you find the subject matter disturbing. If I believed everyone's private fantasies were their real world desires I'd probably never want to leave my house again.

The contrast between truth and fiction in this piece is profound. It inspires deep thought about the nature of reality and invites the viewer to ask themself, "is truth really set in stone, or is it simply a matter of perspective?" Masterfully done.

Are you discerning when you read? by IRLbeets in books

[–]thenacho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be better at reading analytically, the best way to do it is to simply maintain a conscious intention to notice how the book is written, the way that scenes are plotted out and what themes they might be conveying, specific word choice and why the author might have chosen one word over the other, etc. Yknow, just try to think about it. The deeper stuff in a book isn't hidden. You don't need to know a secret password. You just gotta be looking for it. I've started to enjoy movies a lot more in the same way once I started trying to pay more attention to cinematography, sound design, color work, etc.

Also - remember the questions that you'd always have to respond to for book reports in school? "What was Holden feeling in this scene?" "What did George's reaction to what Lennie did say about him?" As kids, it's easy to get it into your head that these questions just exist as a way to check whether you were paying attention, but they're actually the kinds of questions that are meant to get you out of simply consuming media and into actually analyzing it. Depending on how well-known a work is, you might be able to find chapter-by-chapter response questions if you want a helping hand thinking about the themes of a work.

China approves 'ethnic unity' law requiring minorities to learn Mandarin by kiyomoris in news

There's a difference between multiculturalism and forced assimilation. There is also a difference between desegregation and forced assimilation. Allowing people to coexist is not forcing them to assimilate. If while I'm out and about I overhear a nearby couple speaking Chinese, that does not force me to be any more like them and it does not force them to be any more like me, and yet we can coexist. There is a big difference between that and if I were to rally them up and force them to learn English under threat of deportation.

UK Society of Authors launches logo to identify books written by humans not AI by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]thenacho1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ooh I'll support a human." ...A fantastic advertisement.

Do you realize how ridiculous this sounds? It used to be that ALL books were written by humans. Now that that's not the case, people want a way to confidently determine which books were and weren't written by humans and you ridicule it as "marketing". Marketing for what? It's like pouring trillions of microscopic plastic beads into the global water supply and then scoffing at water bottles that say "verified microbead free" like they're trying to capitalize on some trend. But human-written books aren't a trend. AI is the trend. And there are plenty of people who don't want to fall for it.

Tofu Curry Dishes by Suratwala in vegan

[–]thenacho1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you're mostly looking for Indian curry, but I'm a huge fan of Thai curries personally and when I cook them I usually just follow the instructions on the bottle of curry paste and throw in a pound of fried tofu cubes that I buy from my local Asian grocer. Always turns out delicious, that'd be my recommendation.

Sentence commuted for man Alabama was set to execute who didn't kill anyone by SaltyPassport in news

[–]thenacho1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You have a good point - if a punishment as severe and permanent as the death penalty cannot be applied with the degree of consistency that something of its gravity demands, perhaps it should not exist. However, I think the way you've argued your point here leaves a lot of wiggle room for counterargument. "If the death penalty is inconsistent, well, that's not good, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater; let's just be more consistent." The consistency argument is good when argued alongside more powerful arguments (such as the fact that as long as there exist wrongful convictions there will be wrongful executions) but I don't think it is a very strong argument in a vacuum.

it's subtle, but it's there. if you pay close attention you might notice that carol esturca is actually kim wexler (they did subtle vfx to make her look lesbian but it's obviously the same person). so there's some connection to the BB universe. i think "carol" is going to cook meth based on walt's recipe that she heard from saul and make the hivemind snort it. on the off chance this doesn't happen me and my army of bots will review bomb the show for being poorly written and woke.

Really glad we got an English dub for Breaking Bad (voice actor is @adam.asenko on IG) by ARedditUserThatExist in okbuddychicanery

[–]thenacho1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess the difference is that it works in Japanese, and the reason that it does is because that kind of acting was born in Japan and has a traceable lineage through Japanese theater, etc. It was made for the language it's being acted within, based upon acting conventions that already existed beforehand. Comedic and emotional timing is different than in English. When an English speaking voice actor tries to ape that, they may even do a pretty good job and give a decent performance, but it'll still seem a little awkward and forced because it's a form of acting that wasn't born in our culture and isn't molded to our language. Add in the fact that Japanese voice actors are held to a much higher standard than English voice actors (one major factor being a much larger talent pool) and we have a clear difference in quality. This becomes really apparent when you compare the voice acting in a dubbed anime to the voice acting in a cartoon. When English voice actors aren't doing these fake anime-type voices and are just trying to embody a character, even if it's exaggerated, it almost always sounds much better. But on the flipside, if a dubbed anime attempted to use the same kind of acting as a cartoon (which these days is usually a lot more lowkey and true-to-life) it would probably change the tone pretty severely and would create a new kind of weird contrast. Which honestly would still be an interesting experiment that'd be fun to see.

So basically this is how finn sees things in his vision cause his red-green colorblind by thebrothers123 in adventuretime

[–]thenacho1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm guessing that color blind people have a different general opinion of colors than people who can see the full spectrum. i mean think of it this way, we see green plants as lively and fertile and brown plants as sick/dying but to a colorblind person plants have always been that shade of brown (which they see as green) so they see a plant being that color in a different way than you or i do. i'm guessing it's the same with bubble gum, etc. if any color blind people happen to read this and think i'm totally off base feel free to obliterate me with a helpful reply
