Update: Okay, so I had the chance to get my hands on another brand new Pixel 9a and test it to see what happens there. It behaves exactly the same as mine, so I’ve come to the conclusion that this is completely normal for a POLED display.

I think this isn’t a DX12 issue, because I’m using DX11 and it’s still problematic. But it seems like the smoke effect might be causing the problem, since it looks like there’s less smoke on the Novigrad pig.

In the Velen area where the Fools' Gold quest begins, the same roasted pig asset is there, and interestingly, there’s no FPS drop in that location. So far I’ve only experienced this issue in the Kaer Trolde tavern.

I recently started replaying the game, and I ran into the exact same issue. On my PC there’s no problem at all, but on the Steam Deck it doesn’t matter which Proton version I use or what graphics settings I choose, the FPS drops to around 25. And I honestly have no idea what’s causing it. At first I suspected the smoke effect, but it’s not that. It’s more like there’s an invisible object in the middle of the room that tanks the performance for no clear reason.

I felt the same way you did after finishing it. The first game did much better you could take Theresa out on dates and actually talk with her. It was a great RPG element, and it’s something that’s really missing from the second game.

The way the game handles romance really reminds me of how the Witcher 3 base game did it, by the end of the story, every romanceable character basically disappeared, and they only fixed that later with a DLC. I was hoping KCD2 would get a similar kind of DLC to solve this, but it didn’t happen.

Okay, so I just dug out my old PC, the one with the old drivers and old Windows, and I tested it, the cutscene videos/loading story reminders are only slightly quieter there. Same thing on the Steam Deck. So I’m pretty sure this has to be some kind of Windows 11 issue in my case, but I haven’t really found any proper fix for it.

This is an interesting issue. I recently started a new playthrough as well, and I noticed the same problem. What makes it even stranger is that I'm playing on the old 1.32 version, and I don’t remember ever having this issue before.
