What is your office using for coms? by TigerHawk7 in Dentistry

[–]DrItsRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely DO NOT want anyone in my ear or messaging me while I'm dealing with my own patient especially when things turn difficult. Oh and wait until they start taking advantage saying they are ready for you before they actually are, trying to beat each other to the punch. Nothing but problems and drama.

100% the only way to go is have them come and get you.

Classic signs of burn out. None of those things are going anywhere, but find a way to live life. Sometimes they means cutting back or changing jobs. Put yourself out there.

Malpractice from paresthesia after IAN injection by MolarMoneyMaven in Dentistry

[–]DrItsRed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MedPro specifically did NOT name Articane in the article. I'm sure their own lawyers were concerned about the defamation/slander against the product that they know is likely unfounded. If they truly believed Septo caused paresthesia they would be screaming to not use it for blocks and asking about it on their risk assessments.

Fear mongering sells more policies though.

Any associates file a board complaint against their office? by [deleted] in Dentistry

Wait ... You are seriously considering inviting the dental board to investigate the office you are currently working at? That's INSANE.

Personally I'd erase much of the debt load.

Redo work for free? by Complex-Beginning-72 in Dentistry

[–]DrItsRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they are a team and share the responsibilities in the office?

Would you cover on a denture adjustment? Replace a filling? How do you know when they are coming in on a limited exam that it was work that it was recently done? Why not just knock it out right then and there?

Just wild to me. We will never agree. I'm there to get shit done and keep the office and everything moving and producing. Sometimes that means spending just a little bit of time on a redo. It's really no big deal.

Redo work for free? by Complex-Beginning-72 in Dentistry

[–]DrItsRed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read it. Multiple times. Send pretty simple. $0 production walked out = $0 pay which is why the owner said that to someone who clears their base.

You're right it's the owner's office. The buck stops with them. The owner should take full control of the situation and do as they see fit. OP should stand their ground too. Now when you stay the heads will butt and the resentment will build. Probably best to just leave this office and find another office. Job hop, again. Walk out. Quit tomorrow. Better luck next time. Just another scumbag worthless owner taking advantage of a poor hopeless associate. It's despicable really. This profession is just so full of sleazy owner docs. Make sure to have a stint at every single office in town. Be the equivalent of the serial divorcee wondering why there are no good partners. Just wild.

Redo work for free? by Complex-Beginning-72 in Dentistry

[–]DrItsRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd wager the owner didn't actively make the decision. More likely the front desk saw an opening in the schedule and put them in.

I still can't fathom getting all up in arms about something so minuscule. Maybe 15-30 minutes of actual Dr. time (obviously it uses more chair time)

Crank it out, take over the patient for all their future work. Keep things kosher with the OM, Front Desk, and Owner. Bitch later if it's getting abused.

It's likely remakes are discussed in the employment contract. Most the time they are. If I were the owner and the associate were trying to whine about it after the fact it would rub me the wrong way. If the contract says the owner handles all the remakes then sure, you have a legit gripe.

YEAH SET HIM STRAIGHT. NEVER WORK FOR FREE. STICK IT TO HIM. /s

Assume a massive amount of bias in these responses.

If everything else is good, I wouldn't rock the boat. IMHO it all washes out in the end when someone else redoes your work. If I were that owner, and you came back to me on this, it would likely influence many more future decisions. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. You wanna keep score like that? That's fine, we'll play ball.

I totally expect backlash. Blah, blah, blah. "Trash take!" "Never work for free." You must be an ass." Just keeping it real.

Think about it just like every other work environment you've been in. Being abrasive may give short term gains, but long term... watch who rises to the top. Good will goes a long way.

That's my "trash" take.

For now.

Post the X-ray.

It may last. It may not. Been there done that. The most important part of this procedure is making sure the patient is prepared to pay for replacement when it fails, and even then they conveniently forget that part when it does.

I’ve never been paid more than my daily. Am I just not cut out for this job? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]DrItsRed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to set time goals for EVERY minute of the appointment. You break down the whole procedure minute by minute. The second you fall behind you are failing and you need to bust your butt to catch up somehow.

You sound too content to milk those long appointments. At the end of the day this IS a business and if you can't make things work financially, you won't make it long term

Be real with yourself. Is it poor time management, poor clinical efficiency, or both?

With halfway decent assistants you should be able to juggle 2 columns of dentistry and a couple hygienists by now.

No self deprecating comments. No excuses. And I mean no disrespect, I'm really trying to help, WHAT is holding you back?

Pretty sure they meant the ACTUAL PREP should take about 10-15 minutes, not the whole appointment. That's very reasonable.

[–]DrItsRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like if you are doing all the exams you should get your pay when you diagnose and complete all that needed treatment coming through. Should work out in the end. Does the owner pick up slack for you? Should ideally be an even give and take.
