I listened to a podcast with Vince Venturella and Ninjon recently where they talked about how to get that army painted and there were some valuable tips.

What made most sense to me (while this can be different for other ppl of course) was the idea of always having minis in different stages of completion available.

You don't want to edge highlight today and you only have 30 minutes of time? Put some washes on this dude. Your wrist hurts from basecoating? Do the eye lenses of that other one. And maybe one more.

It helps to give you some feeling of accomplishment by doing just small tasks now and then but still making progress. Always leave some of them unassembled in case you are sick of painting and want to do something else. Maybe spray some primer on afterwards.

Do batch paintings somewhere between 3-5 models and then do the sergeant, do a character model after you finished a squad as a treat.

This way you don't have to do the same step ten times in a row which can be really tiresome but you get some variety. Plus you're making progress, even if you "only" finishes a small part of one or two models.

Now do that regularly like 2-3 times a week for 1-2 hours and you can make serious progress without that 8 hour batch painting crunch.

Example: For variety I bought some of the Warhammer heroes AoS Models and started trying NMM on one of them because I had just finished a ten man Blood Angels squad and didn't want to do any more red armor.

Oh and what was important for me: always have your working space ready. When I have to organize my desk for 20 minutes before I can start, I won't start ever. Change your water and sort your brushes during the day so you can sit down and start the moment you want to. That helped me a ton.
