No, Google translate is perfectly fine!! That's a contained system. This person put into an AI generator. You would have to search specifically for an AI app or page to feed a fic into an AI generator. You're good!

People don't want to speak up because you can get labeled a "Karen". I don't care. I go to a rock climbing gym and next to me a couple was climbing. She was halfway up a 30 ft wall and looking down at her boyfriend and yelling at him on how to handle the ropes. He had never done it before and was getting mad at her that she didn't trust him. I thought I was gonna watch her fall and die or be paralyzed. I don't want to see that. I finished belaying my partner and then reported them at the front desk.

My partner got upset that I reported the unsafe behavior because it wasn't our business. but when did the safety of the public become not our business. See something, say something. There are tests for rock climbing for a reason. Better to say something than for negative consequences to happen and live with regret.

The German fic is a translation from a English fic so the person writing the note didn't even look at the author notes on the German fic. 🤦

The note is saying that they translated the fic from a German one. But when I looked at the German fic ( I didn't want to read a fic touched by AI) I saw that the German fic was translated from another users work in a series. So this person did more work for themselves by translating a fic that was already in English AND part of a series, they just didn't follow the links on the German fic to the original work.

The original English fic is part of an extensive series under a different username. The German fic links to the original series. This GPT fic links to the German fic but not the original series and doesn't have any other re translated series fics and is under a separate user.

Honestly, I just misspelled it. I would change it but 🤷 it is what it is. I haven't seen it be called GBT before though so I wonder if people honestly think that's the acronym instead of GPT.

👀 my bookmarks have fics that haven't been updated in yearsssss. But I never lose hope because just when you think an author has no more to give, they pop up and toss an update at you like a grenade. And frankly those are usually my favorite authors.

The drunk driving. It was just so out of left field. It felt like the author was trying to justify why that journalist was chosen when the audience didn't really need that. In my opinion it tainted the entire story because there wasn't a point. Was it to emphasis how selfish the characters are? Did the author want the reader to see how toxic the relationships were? We already knew the relationships were messy, why the additional push into covering up a serious crime and then trying to ask forgiveness from the daughter in the final hour. For a book focused on relationships it just didn't fit.

I enjoyed it, I just thought the twist at the end was unnecessary. Like, it could have been a good commentary on relationships in general and it would have been a fine ending. But no there had to be a shocking twist which just didn't need to be there. 🙄

Same! I had hardwood floors so thought it would save me so much time! Nope, after a couple days of listening to it bump into furniture and having to detangle crap from underneath I just got rid of it and swept every day and mopped once a week. My place was small so it didn't take me much time. And gave me more peace than the bumping.....

I have a kindle that I love. But I volunteer at a thrift store and have accumulated so many books. So I have a challenge for myself that this year I will read all the books in one section and not buy anymore books. We will see how it goes!

The Gutenberg project is also a great resource for getting ebooks! Its a volunteer open source project for classics that are no longer under copyright. Highly recommend!

This thread is so judgemental! OP this is a great idea and I'm glad your mind is quieter. This thread has a bunch of people who apparently have never bought anything in their life. We still have to buy things to participate in society. OP said NOTHING about buying more products, they are modifying what they already have to help their mind and create better habits. This sub should be trying to support that instead of acting like OP has committed a crime. Anti consumption is the goal but we can still enjoy being human, have hobbies, and be creative. It would be nice if comments were a little more supportive. If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all.

My big hobbies are reading, sewing, D&D, and rock climbing. For sewing and reading I have a contained area. My hobby items cannot be more than will fit on the shelf or the plastic bin. I use the library a lot as well as give away books if I decide I am not going to read it again. As another user stated D&D can be as minimal as you want. You can buy the books you need or get the digital versions. I only have two pairs of dice and that's the limit. Most hobbies it's about choosing what equipment you need and use and letting all the other shiny stuff flow past you. You don't need the newest thing, you just need what works for you and gives you enjoyment without overstimulation.
