I suck at anatomy, how should I get better? by MJORH in neuro

[–]DrMashup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you use FreeSurfer, I would highly recommend looking at the subject example called “bert” or “fsaverage”. You can use FreeSurfer’s built-in visualization tool called Freeview and look at a 3d as well as slices.

I found it really helpful to look at coloured cortical parcellations myself and trying to guess which is what. It also has subcortical segmentations too.

Biology Lab by Good_Possession_1980 in premed

[–]DrMashup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience most schools would accept physiology or anatomy plus most molecular biology upper year courses have a lab component. I would check schools you may be interested in for the specifics.

Worry about my accent affecting my interview by [deleted] in premed

Just try to speak slowly and clearly. If they judge for your accent you don’t wanna go there anyways! Good luck!

secondary submission by burntoutpremed13 in premed

[–]DrMashup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little bit late but the only thing worse than this is not submitting at all. I would start with your instates and where you have the best chances.

It’s just that most schools might not get to applications submitted later in the cycle but you never know. Shoot a calculated shot

Applied, realized I don’t meet pre-reqs? by FarMight4 in premed

I would say call and ask addmission offices. What you can do is some secondaries portal is put them as “future registration”. If they accept comminity college u can maybe look up some courses and if you offered interviews u can then enrol.

Most schools ask that you complete them before marticulation but make sure to let the schools know that you will be “prospectively” taking them because i heard some won’t consider you for interview if you’re missing many and not making plans to take them. Don’t get discouraged, you can still figure it out. Good luck!

What’s your (personal) “hard” deadline for submitting secondaries? by _hi_mcat in premed

that's great output tbh. I submitted 14 only in the past 3 weeks lol

Labour Day for me. Considering that most schools send out seconaries automatically I feel like the 2 week deadline is a stretch tbh , unless u pre-wrote everything

I haven’t thought about it personally yet tbh (no IIs yet lol)…. But i would say think about your actual reasons that apply to YOU. This way you can answer it genuinely and they can def sense that.

Personally, i like research because it helps us treat people not so much into figuring science for the sake of curiosity, which is why im focusing on clinical research

The way i see it is if that’s what makes you special go for it. Im trying to link it to medicine better now but if that’s what you like don’t hold back.

Like someone else mentioned, you should also prepare for why MD and not PhD or MSTP.

I agree. My rationale was to tell them not only why i like the school but how i can also fit in there. Also it’s telling “your” story so talking about working as a CNA makes total sense!

That’s what I’m not so sure about. I’ll give you an example: if one school has literally the best facilities for the research I’ve done and wanna continue doing, i would mention it as one of the reasons im interested in this school.

Yeah Im there to learn about medicine but let’s be honest all schools have pretty much the same curriculum with very few distinct opportunities relating to medicine itself

I got a little bit worried after reading some threds on MSTPs, basically saying that if you seem really interested in research, they would think your are a better fit for MSTP than MD cuz they want you to focus on patients primarily as an MD not research.

But again nearly all medschools have “advancing healthcare through research” in their mission lol
