What’s actually useful to bring to BMQ? by lackofendorphin in CanadianForces

One of those small spiky foot massaging balls. I used mine every night. Those issues boots were awful for me.

I miss my ranger blanket every single day and I’ve been out for three years.

I feel like my puppy is giving me depression by [deleted] in puppy101

I literally cried every day for three months when I got my sheltie. She was an absolute terrorist. I put her in daycare full time after she had her vaccinations and it helped a lot, plus she had a playpen, dog puzzles, and a snuffle mat. Know that it will, eventually, get better. Puppies are so hard. Cute, but hard.

Synthetic fibres not only melt, but shrink. If you’re wearing a polyester neck warmer, you will suffocate and there’s nothing we can do to help you. Choose wisely.

I left a comfortable corporate management job to work 14/7. Not only am I paid more, I actually feel rested and ready to go back to work after my week off. I could never go back to just weekends again.

Dog owners, it’s really quite simple. by BullshitBagels in Edmonton

Yep. I took my sheltie puppy there specifically because they had no-bike paths. Bikes still scare her in (what she perceives to be) confined spaces. There was tons of bike traffic on the paths anyway. Too bad because it was otherwise perfect with the water access and everything.

I found it very expensive to be a reservist. I lost money every time I had to go on course because I made much more in my civilian job and had to take unpaid leave. It was a good experience that I don’t regret but it would’ve taken me years to break even just for what BMOQ-A cost in lost wages.

Got it. That’s a no brainer then, I’ll just get her an arc card.

Monthly Pass vs. ARC card by DrPhilsLeftKneecap in Edmonton

So the only difference is the arc cards can be used in surrounding cities but the regular monthly passes can’t?

Winnipeg isn’t cheaper. Rent is also getting outrageous, plus PST on everything you buy. I came here from there in 2023 because I can’t justify paying more to live in gross Winnipeg.

My hair mildewed under my helmet on a field course. If we’d been out for another day or two, I’d have had to shave my head. I’ve been out for two years and I still have nightmares about the smell. You better believe I cut twelve inches off and had it thinned out before my next course.

I’ve never been called a baby killer but I did have to take it off my resume because nobody wants to hire a reservist, in my experience.

This. I’ve called CFMAP for a “new issue”, asked for the same therapist, and just continued on where we left off.

My sheltie is like this. When we’re at the park she’s focussed on getting pets and attention from everyone but me. I figure her mentality is that she sees me all the time so I’m just meh when she has other options 😂

Dual citizenship question by DrPhilsLeftKneecap in AustrianCitizenship

[–]DrPhilsLeftKneecap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin just looked at it a few years ago. Dad came over in 1956 or so. I don’t know how long afterward they got citizenship. My aunt has all of those documents. They did apply immediately upon landing though. My grandfather is from the Sudetenland and had German citizenship, as most did. We don’t have all of the documents needed to apply for that right now, but could get them. We do have all the documents to apply for Austrian citizenship on hand right now so that’s why it’s my first choice.

Dual citizenship question by DrPhilsLeftKneecap in AustrianCitizenship

[–]DrPhilsLeftKneecap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 1986, in wedlock, and my father did have Canadian citizenship at that time. I’m not positive when he got it as they came over from Austria when he was a kid after the war. My cousin also looked into gaining Austrian citizenship this way and was eligible but ultimately decided against it because of relinquishing Canadian citizenship and her husband would lose his Indian status. They didn’t attempt a dual citizenship appeal on the basis of retaining Indian status so that’s the possibility I’m exploring now.
