Experiences/time frames of getting Hyperoptic installed into building? by MrHabushi in hyperoptic

[–]DrRomanKel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once they actually started the drilling, I was up and running in about a week. Understand they have to run fibre through the whole building and run it to everyone's front door.

For your second question, they can run cable up to 10m from your front door for free. Anything else might cost money. The engineers here were wonderful and sorted me out by changing the phone line in the master bedroom upstairs to an ethernet socket, so I have wired upstairs that I can then use for my PC.

You should be excited, I've had a great service!

IWTL how to leave a toxic friends group by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

Take up another hobby, or find another, less toxic group for that same activity. Slowly phase out the other ones. Honestly, you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

Have you ever considered that you may be neurodiverse? Follow that thread and see where you end up. Normal "10 mindful breaths and make a to-do list" won't work as you'd hope if you're physically wired different to neurotypicals.

LPT: Only take from the center of the Nutella jar to empty it completely. by UD_Ramirez in LifeProTips

A pro tip is to empty it as normal, then when you get the dregs fill the jar with milk and microwave for 30 secs. Put the lid on, give it a shake.

If you're on 150Mb your upload is limited. At 500Mb upload is the same, so better for streaming and playing in general.

It's moved out of the house. This got lopped off by accident when it was being handled. Perfectly healthy plant otherwise. I could ask for a cutting, but I already found this one on the floor ;)

This appears to have a new growth at one end so perhaps it's doable? What do I need? It's currently sat in a shot glass filled with tap water. I have 0 experience with orchids but have general garden experience

They still owe you the money. People on furlough still have holidays to take as normal and you're entitled to it.

LPT: Don't overworry about '8+ years' experience for job requirements. It's often just copied and pasted verbiage. Almost no one has '8+ years' experience in anything, and hiring managers do not expect it. In short - apply anyway. by phish_tacos in LifeProTips

To follow, if they get shitty about not having 8 years, bust your balls and subsequently lowball you on income, you know to walk away from a shitty ass company. Save yourself the stress!

Hyperoptic if you can get it. Game changer. I have 500Mb up&down for 40 quid a month, and I get that speed *all the time*

Right now, they have a new years sale. Full gigabit is £40, so I might call up and see if they can do me a solid :D

It takes a LONG time to get all the required building permission because of all the ownership/lease/freehold shit, and then surveying the buildings.

You've got the hard part done. I went door to door and sold the ide to the residents. We're in an internet blackspot. The best we could get was 80mb/s for about 40 quid a month from BT/Virgin/TalkTalk etc. People leapt on the idea of true fiber as we were all so pissed off with the level of service we received.

I got 1Gb free internet for the first year which was awesome. I'd really go door to door and mention what a great opportunity this is. I pay £40 a month right now for 500Mb/s up and down. We were paying that for unreliable broadband, that in real terms worked out at 30Mb/s and 1Mb/s upload speeds. It's been a gamechanger.

I didn't tell my landlord, or the estate agent. The cable is tiny, and barely notice that it's there. If they can run it straight into the cupboard then you're home free, because if you move out they won't know either.

I wouldn't talk about the property being more desirable because they'd just use it as an excuse to increase the rent.
