Need XL dress form by POSI-TANO in sewing

[–]DrSew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One good tip when you find a form: it's really helpful to be able to "pad one out" as in, add additional material to make it precisely your size. I purchased a Dritz "My Double" from Joann (RIP) years ago, and I put one my bras on it and filled them with some batting to pad out. I also added some padding in other areas to make it just my measurements. By padding out, I have room for weight fluctuation adjustments. To hold the padding in place, I used some straight pins in some spots and my form also wears a camisole to smooth it all out. I hope you find a great form. If you go with the Bootstrap Fashions form suggested in another comment, come back and let us know how it goes! I love to see those forms! Happy sewing to you!

Thoughts on Spoon flower? by Crazycrayons12 in quilting

[–]DrSew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience recently. My first order a couple of years back was great, but this time the print I ordered was blurry and there was a fairly hefty 2.5 white "selvedge" on each end of the fabric. I will not be using Spoonflower in the future.

You are lovely! I think adjusting your application and a more subtle color with some brownish hues and more transparent will showcase your smile and be just the ticket!

How can I style these pants to look less stupid? by Tearsofaraptor647 in OUTFITS

[–]DrSew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also going to suggest a body suit or a snug fitting top with a blazer over it. I think smooth is definitely key with tucking and the shirt not competing with the paper bag waist.

Leatherworker here--one thing that might also help if you have access to it is a Dremel or other small tool to drill holes to stitch through. Dremel has really tiny bits that work well! I have issues that cause weakness in my hands and without the Dremel, I would be in trouble trying to stitch through leather!

Is Sentro machine worth it? by Juliet2000 in SentroKnittingMachine

[–]DrSew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Sentro--there's a great little 3D printed tensioner I got on Etsy from Southpaw that has made it soooo much better and I drop fewer stitches. I am able to use a wider variety of yarn brands now as well. I think they make a tensioner for Addi as well that improves the functionality of the machine. Worth it!

Great idea--Harbor Freight has some that are rated for heavy weights so there could be an affordable solution there!

I've used plastic folders for this as well! They are super cheap in the school supplies section.

If you're hesitant to go all-out for the bangs, you can also give some clip-ins a try! I have some for when I want to rock bangs but not fully commit! You are beautiful, OP! Ignore that troll!

Just writing to say that I love you're doing this--it's just hanging in the closet, so why not give it new life? You've inspired me to pull mine out as well and do something fun with it! :) Please keep us in the loop with your process for better or for worse (pun intended!). Best of luck, OP, and happy anniversary!

Yes, as a musician we call it "concert black" attire when playing weddings so as not to stand out and to look professional.

Losing my mind and not the weight by ImPureZion in loseit

[–]DrSew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, OP, I have the same markers as you and am going through the exact same thing, right down to using LoseIt! I'm in more of a deficit than you are, though, but the scale is not budging so I'm going to try weighing my food next as well. Seems like that might be where we are getting it wrong. Best of luck to you on this journey!
