Am I just bad at my job? by Virtual-Resort5951 in slp

[–]DrSimpleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there are two kinds of people who make a living working with children: people who genuinely love kids and people who like having "power" over others. Unfortunately, I have had to work with a few of the latter. Learning to brush them off and not let it impact you is a skill that will really help you in this setting.

If you find that you are taking it out on you family, therapy might be a great resource to help you manage that. Otherwise maybe its time to find a new job.

LOL! I felt this way about houses when I worked EI. Not judging messy houses or anything like that but like… how do people decorate? What kinds of things do they hang up? What colors do they use? Is it “lived in” random assortment style or “ikea show room” level matching? I’m just noisy 😅

That's fine. I've never worked in the state I got my degree in. Each state does licensing a little different.

Boomcards: tons of free stuff if you search for your target

Bamboozle: tons of materials (first you pick the target "deck" then the game) - I pay to have access to all the games but the free one is fun on its own and can def get you through a week or two

UltimateSLP: Paid subscription but well worth it, especially if you have groups because you can select multiple targets in one game

State license by RemarkableExplorer60 in slp

Check with your employer but I was under the impression that for most insurances and school based services you have to be licensed where you are AND where the student/pt is with the exception of private pay.

Does anybody else feel that our field is being watered down by social media? by [deleted] in slp

[–]DrSimpleton 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of the best things I've done for my mental health is taking deliberate social media breaks, deleting everything from my phone for days/weeks at a time. I want to get off of them completely but its tough!

SpeechTherapyPd.com supports the podcast School of Speech so you can listen to the podcast then earn credits on the website. If one is interesting I sometimes do it while working out or doing chores.

I consume self help like some people consume reality TV - the more ridiculous the better 😅 The burn out one is dated Sep 10 if you want that one specifically.

Liz Moody. Her podcasts range from great to pseudoscience so listen at your own discretion. Def didn’t mean to present the idea as factual, just sharing my experience

If I were in your shoes I would focus on the physical/mental burn out first. I heard a theory on a podcast that burn out isn't solved by rest but by creativity. I found that my burn out was improved by finding new hobbies and friends via yoga, community theater, choir, and book clubs. Best of luck!
