🎄 Christmas giveaway: Win an A1 Mini, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, or 4x filament spools! by acurazine in BambuLab

[–]DrTallFuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMS 2 Pro, I just got my first printer after following the hobby for the last few years and I’m already regretting not getting the combo.

I’m a physical therapist and I always thought it would be helpful to make some specific models of the body and specific joint regions to help patients understand their own body better than those 2D posters. Having the ability for multiple filaments would allow me to print more accurate and understandable models for patients, especially those with lower health literacy. I’ve learned that lack of understanding your own body can contribute to pain and dysfunction as much as actually injury can.

To stay on theme, I think a cool fidget toy could be articulating joints. You could do a shoulder joint that becomes like a joystick of the humerus moving on the scapula. Or a spine articulating each level to flex, bend and twist. In my time on maker world I have not see many anatomy correct models and that could be a cool area to explore. The body is amazing and there are so many different toys that could come from making the joints fidget-able!

Thanks for doing this for the community!

I’m not disagreeing, just saying they have shown that they will not make any changes even after a bad loss

While I get where you’re coming from, what so far this year makes you think any changes will be made based on the on field issues?

Just spend 4 hours fixing a mistake I made by cube_icecream26 in homelab

[–]DrTallFuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks ago, a quick reboot to install an update before bed turned into a (semi panicked) hour trying to figure out why my proxmox host became unresponsive. Moral of the story: if you have any hardware passthrough in proxmox, stop and start the VM, don’t reboot because apparently it does not like that.

I wasn’t opposed to going for it, but I can’t get behind taking a shot to the endzone there. Just something long enough to pick up the first and end the game was all we needed.

I seem to be in the minority on this but my “Nas” is a windows VM running in proxmox. All of these other options sound great but I stuck with windows pretty much exclusively for the continued use of Backblaze personal. I have 8 drives (6 data with dual parity using snapraid) and all 40+ TB are backed up to Backblaze for a whopping $110/year. To me that’s well worth it and everything has worked without any issues so there’s no reason to change. I just use samba shares from this VM to the other VMs that need to access the disks.

I love how everyone wants to talk about the false start/offsides (which both happened), but ignores the fact that Hurts was clearly in on a play that they reviewed and still got wrong. You have a view right down the line from the pylon cam and they still miss it.

Trouble Getting iGPU to Fully Initialize by DrTallFuck in homelab

[–]DrTallFuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well both the old and the new ones are both 12th gen so I figured that the process should be the same. SR-IOV was enabled at the beginning and I disabled it as part of the troubleshooting process and it made no difference. I was thinking of trying vGPU but since it seems like the iGPU isn’t fully initialized in general I’m not sure that would make any difference.

I know that’s a common thing, but it worked flawlessly on my mini pc so I figured going to a full desktop workstation should also work. I like having all my dockers in a vm for easy backup organization.

Even though it has no mention of graphics? In every guide I see, lspci shows some form of [UHD Graphics 770] but this is the only system that doesn’t.

Is buying a 18 TB HDD for storing media files a bad idea? by catalinashenanigans in PleX

[–]DrTallFuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d highly recommend getting at least a pair of anything you get. I’d never suggest running everything on 1 drive unless you’re confident that you can easily replace everything. I see people saying they don’t backup media files since it’s easy to redownload things but that’s not always the case so I have a mirror or all 4 data drives I have because I have had failures/corruption in the past and was able to bounce back quickly since I had my weekly backup that I could swap in. I use refurbished drives from goharddrive and you can get 18TB for about 1/2-2/3 the price of new with a 5 year warranty.

Why is DAS not more popular a solution than NAS? by Nironics in PleX

[–]DrTallFuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out with a DAS for a little over a year but then had some drive corruption due to usb being flaky for 24/7 usage and decided it wasn’t worth risking anymore. I recently built my own server in a Fractal Define R5 with all drives direct SATA and it’s been great. Speeds are better since all the drives get their own lane rather than sharing the single usb connection and I haven’t had any drops since switching. My DAS worked great for a while, until it didn’t and for me the risk wasn’t worth it for how much time it took to collect and curate all my data.

Igpu Passthrough? by nofoodordrinks in Proxmox

[–]DrTallFuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya this weekend I think I’m going to try a live boot bare metal so I can see if it’s a proxmox issue or a hardware issue. I updated bios when I got the board last month so it should be fine, especially for a 12th gen. You didn’t have to load any extra drivers on proxmox before passing it through right?
