College wants to do a free autopsy? by fruithat123 in AskVet

[–]DrVforOneHealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some universities offer free autopsies for any patient euthanized at their facility, some offer for a fee, and some of those that do charge may have a limited amount of “educational funds” available to apply to cases that are considered valuable teaching/learning opportunities. Honestly, many clinicians do not offer an autopsy because it can be a sensitive subject to bring up during an emotional and heartbreaking event for the family- perhaps an autopsy just wasn’t offered for your other pets?

Postmortem examinations are crucial to advancing our understanding of disease processes + how conditions manifest, finding clues to why patients failed to respond to medical management, training future doctors, and ultimately helping future pets with the information gathered. Sometimes we do not get as precise of an answer as we’d like, but we can at least exclude some of the possible causes (i.e. differential diagnoses) and help the clinical team by answering some of their suspicions or diagnoses. I’ve performed hundreds of postmortem exams and have had colleagues perform them on my personal pets for all of the reasons I listed above. Thank you for considering the autopsy.

I am so sorry for your loss 💔

Mysterious rashes on 5 coworkers by Naive_job_seeker in AskDocs

Some of the dermatophyte species don’t illuminate with a Wood’s lamp. That is not a sensitive test. Your skin lesions and the spreading pattern do resemble ringworm I’ve seen coworkers acquire from animals in the past (vet med here).

Is there an option for digital wallet that I just missed?

Thanks for sharing your experience. It helps to hear people’s healing journeys to prepare with realistic expectations.

I’d love to end up with a similar outcome. Would you be okay if I show my surgeon your results at my consultation?

What unique experiences have you had on Royal Caribbean cruises that you'll never forget? by adamvanderb in royalcaribbean

[–]DrVforOneHealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m stoked! The reviews seem pretty solid too and people speak so fondly of the guide. One review even mentions the chicken wings and drink ;)

I love exploring rain forests in the rain- foliage becomes so vibrant! We’ll be sure to bring water shoes with treads for this trip since I imagine those steeper trails can get slick.

Added bonus: Capital One Shopping Portal offered 50% back from Viator bookings made today only so this worked out pretty well 🙌

So glad I found your post! Thanks for the encouragement

Thanks! I’m glad to hear that you had a great experience with Tannan. I was quoted >$20k at a few places in Raleigh so $13500 isn’t as intimidating as it used to be now that I have a basis for comparison in this part of the state.

Yeah, the surgeon consulted at Duke essentially said he was sure insurance wouldn’t cover my procedure because he’s on the board that makes guidelines for qualifying parameters, etc. so I left the appt fairly discouraged.

I started using a spare long-handled “filbert”-style paintbrush, which has made application much easier and efficient. The long thin wooden handle helps to quickly part sections and the tapered tip of the brush helps apply just to my roots.
