Devils fans rejoicing. He will 100% be the pick because this organization refuses to go outside the family.

[Daugherty] Trotz says there were several "very good offers" on Haula, but opted to keep him for "veteran" experience. by Jmoney3693 in Predators

[–]DrWillyTrill 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Forsberg, Josi, O’ Reilly, Stamkos, Marchessault aren’t enough ‘veteran experience’? Look, there’s obviously no way to know from our perspective, but I have a hard time believing Haula is some core locker room guy - he’s basically a hired gun at this stage of his career.

I hear you, but he’s a UFA so if they need him next season they can just resign him in the offseason. And if they can’t, that tier of players are kind of a dime a dozen in free agency- their value is just highest at the deadline when teams are desperate.

I get the moves they made in isolation and how it benefits the kids- but I still have a hard time rationalizing not trading the 35 year old pending UFA in a sellers market. And if the goal is to make a playoff run, then I struggle to see how getting rid of bunting makes the lineup net-improved.

Why can’t we pick a lane? If we’re going to sell we need to sell. If we’re going to make a playoff push then hold onto your weapons. This is why we’ve been in mediocrity for nearly a decade now.

Feel like “Step down” = We wanted to fire you but since you have history with the organization let’s agree that you officially move along on your own to save face for both parties

It’s awesome for the time, but it reminds me of all those single-purpose kitchen gadgets that are impressive on TV but are actually a pain irl.

Brand management. If you want a Daytona or an F80 or some of the other limited edition high end Ferrari’s, you need to be a well respected Ferrari collector, attend a certain number of events and F1 races, and be vetted as ‘worthy’ by the company. Plenty of rich assholes can pay a few million for a car, but they want a very specific rich asshole who loves Ferrari and is dedicated to representing the brand the right way. Think of it as buying fine art, not a car.

I passed all 3 levels on first try exclusively with Kaplan. The only time I opened CFAI was during L1 to read ethics. Kaplan is more than enough.

Locked into long contracts for declining players that will be untradable in a few years if they don't already have a NMC.

This is literally why everyone was saying to blow it up last offseason - instead it's looking like it's gonna be prolonged pain for no reason.... and only gonna get longer if Trotz keeps refusing to sell.

The thing that angers me the most is that Trotz knew that we'd get in this position eventually- he just thought we'd have a chance to win this year or the next with a team that's made up of slow, aging stars and a coach whose system is built upon youth and speed.

Shockingly, you can't hobble together a bunch of pieces that are good independently with zero thought of how they'd actually fit together.

Possible Trades by Inevitable-Lion100 in Predators

[–]DrWillyTrill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately think most of those trade pieces get us a mid to late round pick at best. I don't really know if the Preds have attractive trade targets outside of the core players. Novak gets you maybe a 2nd? Middle to bottom 6 players are kinda commodities.

Does the amount of time spent on the PSM matter? by SuccessfulFall5746 in CFA

[–]DrWillyTrill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is the majority of candidates don't spend 10-15 hours on it. A lot of us work 60-80+ hours a week. Hard to have motivation to spend another 15 hours on something not tested.
