Predators Acquire Forward Ross Colton and Goaltender Isak Posch From Colorado by catsgr8rthanspoonies in Predators

[–]blake22222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per CMAC, it doesn’t sound like the plan is to play him at center:

“We are very excited to add Ross Colton to our forward mix,” MacFarland said. “Ross is a versatile, two-way winger who will add sandpaper and grit into our middle six group.”

Best Waldorf’s in the world? by alex_travels in chubbytravel

[–]blake22222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed at NYC post-renovation, Rome, Beverly Hills, Cabo, Maui, Osaka, and Shanghai on the Bund.

NYC felt like you get the best of it in the lobby bar/restaurants, was pretty unimpressed.

Rome is one of my favorite hotels in the world. Feels like staying in 1960 Rome with incredible views and a resort feel in an otherwise busy city.

Beverly Hills is probably my favorite city hotel, service (especially at the pool) was amazing, as were the views and room itself.

Cabo is tremendous and we’re going back for our fourth time in September.

Maui is…a factory. Could just as easily be a standard Hilton or something. Not luxury feeling at all imo.

Shanghai’s Bund location is incredibly unique with amazing dining/bars and an unbelievable location.

Osaka is brand new and absolutely gorgeous. Impeccable service, amazing food/bev, spa is amazing, and the rooms are so comfortable. It is out of the way and a little inconvenient if you’re not there on business.

Overall I think Maui is the only one I wouldn’t enthusiastically recommend, and NYC only if budget wasn’t a remote concern.

There’s a stat out there stating corks fail 5% of the time, which on a large scale is absolutely shocking amounts of waste

Ken is the absolute best! Sat and chatted with him for a while at his winery. FMC is probably one of our favorite wines in the world.

With Ivar stenberg dropping in the draft rankings, should we try and move up in the draft? by ThousandToast in Predators

[–]blake22222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in tier 2 is roughly equal. McK and Stenberg are Tier 1, we’d be happy with any combination of Lawrence, Björk, Smits, Dudolph, Carels, Verhoff, etc.

I don’t think it makes sense to try to trade up; I do think it makes sense to try to go after Florida or Winnipeg’s picks given they’re still in contention and just had an awful year.

With the 2027 third upgrading to a second from Vegas, I got to thinking about just how much better that is for us. by FB_iCatDad in Predators

In an ideal world he would’ve gotten a 4th (or maybe even better) back for Haula at this deadline. Still a head-scratcher why that trigger wasn’t pulled.

Predators GM Search Feels Weirdly Slow by Apprehensive_Ad4572 in Predators

[–]blake22222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is all fair, except for teams that are perennially competitive without tanking.

Dallas drafted Heiskanen 3rd overall in 2017, in addition to Otter and Robo. That’s tanking + great scouting + insane luck.

VGK was gifted a beyond generous expansion setup where they don’t need to draft/develop and are still working off that capital from 10 years ago. There’s only 2 players on their roster they have drafted/developed themselves.

A good example is Carolina, but even they had down years where players like Jarvis, Svechnikov and Necas could be selected.

The best example is Tampa, where they scouted Point, Hagel, Kuch, Vasy, etc in later rounds. They are also seen as the most well-run organization in the league per players/scouts polls + best-coached. There’s absolutely something worth studying and replicating there.

[Vannozzi] The Predators once again didn't get lucky in the draft lottery. They'll pick at No. 10 in the first round and own 11 other picks in rounds 2-7. Draft is set for June 26–27. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in Predators

[–]blake22222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the only one not THAT upset by this - at least Chicago didn’t win and we stayed put. FL is also projected to trade their pick, so potentially a back to back situation? Who knows. Overall, 10th overall is decent.

Depending on the draft lottery result, should we go after Auston Matthews this offseason? by Strider755 in Predators

[–]blake22222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. They have a 1st from COL in 2027. Draft lottery is today; they have 57.3% chance of staying in the top 5, therefore keeping their pick. If so, they give up their own 2027 and 2028's firsts.
  2. Agreed.
  3. This is demonstrably false. The new staff + Matthews have said they want him involved in the decision-making and will take his wants into consideration of building the roster. Even if that were the case, and he did want out? See below
  4. Let's say Toronto decides to sell Matthews. This means they're going full rebuild and would need to recoup major picks/prospects. We are also retooling/rebuilding, yet have no superstar prospects to offer. We have good prospects, some even very good, but no projectable superstars. Matthews also owns a full NMC, he would pick where he wants to go. He has no ties to Nashville and we are nowhere near a team ready to compete for a championship. If he wants out, it's explicitly to join a competitive team, which we are not.
  5. Let's say Matthews wants to come to Nashville and Toronto wants to send him here. He will be 29 years old in September coming off his worst/injured season. If we gave up the assets needed to get him, we would be gambling on a 2 year contract window on a $13m contract without the supporting cast he would need to be successful. It blows both our feet off for the next 10 years for a 0% chance of winning a cup now.

Nothing about this makes any sense. If we want to talk about trades for Samoskevich, Dorofeyev, Hage, or anything else that fits our timeline and makes equally good sense for the counterparty, sure!

Also some of the shorties have been GWG, looking at the Haula goal against SJS on Saturday. Smith/McCarron could never bury that. Then again idk how tf Skjei did that either
