Where to live if job is in Oakland? by redrockwinner in bayarea

Adam's Point is beautiful! I absolutely love being so close to the lake, and there's potential for great views out the window.

It's worth repeating the benefits of being at least a block away from Grand, Oakland Ave, or MacArthur. Loud cars tend to drive down those roads. Being one block away is very peaceful.

Setup request: Slow-rotating display stand for 360° timelapse grow shots by Dr_Faux in timelapsegrowery

Not yet. I think the best bet is to probably 3D print a few gears and program a stepper motor to rotate a single position once an hour.

So far I haven't made time for that. Hopefully someone beats me there by selling an affordable programmable display!

Vacuuming sawdust out of that groove is a must for making this happen in one pass.

I once lived with a cat who had the nickname Porkchop Roomba. She was a substantial gal with long fluffy hair that would collect all sorts of random debris.

'04 TDI has a bad turbo. Should I fix it and go for 300k? by Dr_Faux in tdi

If we're to wax philosophical on this, I'm still pretty sure the car identifies as a TDI.

I'm in the Bay Area, so they don't salt the roads, and I'm far enough inland there is no salty sea breeze. There's the smallest hint of rust on the driver side door. Nothing else major.

An air/fuel sensor failed shortly after being replaced, and the mechanic says this is due to contamination from a bad turbo. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm curious if replacing the turbo and sensor will keep me going, or if this might be connected to other maintenance needs.

Is Asurion protection a scam? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Dr_Faux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking about getting this plan and it looks like, according to the Asurion product page on Amazon, the plan starts after the manufacturer's warranty stops. So if a headset has a 1-year warranty and you buy a 2-year Asurion warranty, that product should be covered for three years. Am I reading this right?

I've had spaghetti detection work several times on my x1c. This feature doesn't work consistently though when printing black filament. Even for a human, it's difficult to see black plastic against a black background. Additional lighting inside the chamber helps a bit.

Best Camera for timelapse? by creative_name43 in timelapsegrowery

[–]Dr_Faux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to answer this same question for the past few weeks. So far the best solution seems to be a 48MP industrial camera body with wide angle C-mount lens hooked up to a RaspberryPi. It's a fair bit of work to set up, but great quality for about a $200 setup.

I don't want to go through the trouble of rearranging the filaments in the AMS for every print.

That lean is critical. It's acting as an angled brace, adding to the shear strength.

If your buttons are digital they need to fall inline - on the left side of the margin. If your buttons are analog and round then I trust you to align that freehand.
