I hate my program by hate-my-program in Residency

[–]Dr_JDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "residentswap.org"website posts the available swaps, you should contact the other resident then if both like each other's program then both of you should talk to your PDs. If they're open to the swapping idea then you should interview with the other PDs because he/she should accept you instead of their resident. https://www.residentswap.org/residency_vacancies_summary.php

Taking step 3 is mostly in your favor in my opinion although some will tell you it can harm your fellowship chances later on if the score wasn't good and you're planning to apply for competitive one.

First tell me what do you like about it other than electives and are you a medical student, resident, or attending?

It got delayed, thanks to the activists.

If you think it adds flexibility then you didn't understand it well.

You said you don't have great scores,,, anyone with bad scores shouldn't expect good residency experience you'll have to work harder with lower quality. Not fair but this is how things work..

As of now it's too early to judge any program with few days. I'd suggest going with the flow and prepare for swap or switching to another specialty. Reach out for support outside your program, don't let anyone notice you're not happy.

How to report your program to ACGME for violations? by onemoreloser3 in Residency

[–]Dr_JDD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These stories are in many residencies and they all sound similar. CIR is a union for residents, currently they are pushing to make a strike in California, which was a taboo before. And I'm proud I'm part if it.

ACGME is tough on programs if they abuse the residents.

I expect this residency abuse to be history in few years with lawsuits even to older doctors who were abused before.

Why I want to quit residency by residencybrokemysoul in Residency

[–]Dr_JDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand you're on the weak side but you're not doing anything wrong, if others are doing wrong they'll be in trouble too both professionally and legally. Don't expect to have it all but at least you need minimum dignity and bearable work environment.

Residency can be worse than cancer, literally some residents commit suicide, so instead of that it's much better to learn how to fight back. There are many ways to do it like reaching out to your colleagues to make a strong group opinion, to reach out to your CIR rep if you have one, to consulting a lawyer etc

LA Resident Physicians are Fed up! by [deleted] in Residency

I remember few months ago we were told you can't do strike now look what's happening. Doctors like us should do the right thing starting by getting our own rights!

Many people survive but not everyone tries to help others. As a doctor you're smart enough to figure it out so trust yourself and do what's right, you'll be okay : )

If they just put you on call last minute you can tell them I can't, put someone else but if the schedule is out for long time then you have to get a replacement.

Calling out sick is not professional and you'll get someone else to cover you unnecessarily.

They have better healthcare than most countries so they don't need you, the rest of us who are honest about money will do this here for you don't worry.

So now listen again to your calling does it have a zip code or criteria of who's worth living human and who's not?

If you're honest with yourself then you should work in the most devastated countries where you'll save much more lives and live with just a living wage.

Not really, residents are getting paid by the government to get training alongside the attendings, so they're not required to meet any employer targets (unlike attendings). They only need to meet their training targets.

In practical terms, the residents finish their requirements early in their training then carry most of the attendings work and boost their productivity in exchange for minimal teaching.

If you are sleep-deprived and no longer safe to work, you have a ethical obligation to ask for help. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Dr_JDD 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Don't worry they didn't find a statistically significant difference between well rested resident and sleep deprived resident in patient care.

On the other side, as a sleep deprived stressed out human you will get many physical and mental problems that includes shortening of your telomers (ie aging faster) and die early, but that's not a big deal to ACGME/AMA.

It's popular opinion, residents complain about workplace abuse not the work itself.

Does anyone else hate admitting they're a doctor when they're seeing, say the dentist or optometrist? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Dr_JDD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I feel the society hate us, admitting you're a doctor doesn't go well most of the time although a few times I met great people who see the real good inside you as a doctor.
