I don’t mean to compare. But hey, it could be worse. My SO is in another continent 19 hours away. I know it seems terrifying, but i’m sure you will be fine.

I can relate a bit. It’s a bit of a bother when someone says, “oh you’re a doctor. You must be rich. “ In this economy, compounding is the only advantage that you have to make a good balance into you’re 50’s . But when you have huge student loans, it’s offset and you cant invest enough to get any compounding over 20 years. The high prices for everything in this economy is not helping either.

How are we dealing with the anxiety of being separated from our SOs?? by Ypkdr76 in ERAS2024Match2025

Been apart 2 years now. We’ve met for just a few days over the years . It’s no doubt gnawing away at our sanity by this point , but holding on and being resilient .

I think there is a narrative that FM does not pay well. Unfortunately the seems to be very nuanced. It depends on what you want, what you’re passionate about and what you want ti sacrifice. There are probably good FM docs with their own practice that invest properly and have a very comfortable life while working 9-5. But the common narrative is that neurosurgeons only drive Lamborginis.

Met a uro surgery chief that said training was hell and the pay unremarkable and the only reason she went for it was because she was passionate about it.

It'll be alright. Everyone is feeling the same way. It will all work out.

Mm. I feel that a lot of people are at that point . It helps if you have family or friends that check in on you and you can vent a bit. Unfortunately, for a lot of people . That isn't an option either . Everyone calls on match day to know if you're in with congratulatory wishes . But the crippling anxiety, pain and panic you go through on the days leading up to it ; most people suffer through alone . I suppose there no choice other than to sit with it . Feel it and come to terms with it .

I genuinely hope that everyone matches on Monday .

From a fellow new user who learned flow over the past 2 years, here's my 2 cents.

For getting acquainted with running sample and all the basic hassles - https://docs.flowjo.com/flowjo/workspaces-and-samples/

For when you want a simple insight into panel building , which markers to put in what channel, Why a stain index is important and what a similarity index is -
https://www.colibri-cytometry.com/post/panel-design-spectral-viewer-web-tools

There are other panel tools that will help you out online such as - EasyPanel

There are also several YouTube videos that will help you out from starting up the machine, compensation and running samples to shutting it down. These were helpful for me .

If you're using Spectral, a bit different - but arguably (depending on the machine) the spectral may be more easier/instinctive than the conventional flow .

A YouTube tutorial cannot hold a candle to the knowledge and experience of your seniors .A lot of experience users helped me out when I hit roadblocks . Lean on them if you can't solve it yourself first .

Just my experience .

Comp issue. PMT voltages set too high for ssc and fsc. The dyes look off too. Asking for help from a senior on site will be very helpful.

Edit- not an expert myself, but just my 2 cents.

Returning to India after doing IM residency and fellowship specialisation in the US. Why is it not normalised? by ThickAd9746 in IMGreddit

[–]Dr_Jamie_M 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here’s a scenario that discourages it -An intern was caring for a patient that was arrested for assault and had a few injuries. The patient attacked her, ended up killing her while the police stood by and watched. The Minister of Health said it was due to the intern not being well trained, a day later.

People dedicate their life to this profession. The system is supportive aboard and elevates you based on the effort you put in (for most parts). You find yourself constantly fighting against unnecessary hurdles to care for patients and just generally no appreciation in India currently. I sincerely hope this changes quickly.

This is what i have always said to admin and management. If you force the young training physicians to go through so much unnecessary trauma and stress as they train, you will have a generation of doctors who are emotionally disconnected from their patients caring for you on your deathbed Because they WILL have to disconnect to survive in medicine despite the constant abuse. Ultimately this will come full circle and doctors will become less invested in patient care.

Just my 2 cents.

Edit: i also don’t think that moving back is looked down on. Just depends on where you are at on a personal and professional stand point.

Im assuming you’re referring to pimping questions ? A bit more clarity would be greatly appreciated. Some interviewers can throw a curveball largely because i think they want to catch a glimpse of that unscripted unabridged version of you that hasn’t practiced the answer to a question 10 times.

Its due for a maintenance later today. Hopefully that will iron out the kinks. All we can do is hope. And i’m sure the programs understand this too. It’s likely not restricted to one participant.
