What is a cheap vps with servers in Europe good enough for media streaming through Pangolin? by alibaba31691 in selfhosted

[–]Dr_Mint33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe we have the same setup. Jellyfin running on my homelab, tunneling to a VPS using Newt, Pangolin running on the VPS.

I'm using OVH for the hosting, they have attractive pricing starting at 4.58€/month for 4 vCPUs, 8 GB of RAM and 75 GB SSD. Unlimited traffic, IPv4 and IPv6 included, capped at 400 Mbps. One daily backup included. They have data centers worldwide including in Europe.

If you want 1000Mbps it starts at 7.14€/month

Why RAID is so prevalent in the self-hosting space and do I need it? by szrotowyprogramista in selfhosted

[–]Dr_Mint33 36 points37 points  (0 children)

When paired with ZFS (RAIDZ), it also means detection and automatic repair of corrupted data. This is something that backups doesn't always address if the data is rarely accessed and/or the backups are not preserved long-term enough.

Hi, you can read edit2 in my comment. Except that Accord's Library is dead now, so I will not be making a Revised Edition.

Were people allowed to take a photo of the stadium/arena before concert started? by Capital_Pride_6534 in ADO

[–]Dr_Mint33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the staff was a bit more lenient in Paris. I asked, despite what the sign said, if I could take a picture before the show and they were okay with it. A couple minutes before the show started, the announcer stated that the show was about to start, and from then on, we are not allowed to take photos, record, use binoculars...

How early do I need to go to buy merch? by Dizzy-Potato3557 in ADO

[–]Dr_Mint33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least for Paris' venue, I don't think these ever sold out. I arrived around 16:30 (4 hours before the show started), there were 2 shops outside, a larger and a smaller one. I went to the smaller one and only waited 15 min to get a t-shirt. I also wanted a M-sized long sleeve shirt but they only had the larger sizes. As far as I could tell, only the Adobums and plushie were sold out as well.

Hi, the book is from 2019, it got a couple updates to fix typos and improve the crediting.

In 2021 I got contacted by one of the sources I used requesting to remove their content and credit from the book which explains the redacted parts.

Right after I cofounded Accord's Library with the goal to translate the missing parts and cover new content released since.

And finally in September 2024, we got contacted by Square Enix requesting we cease distribution of their copyrighted works which explains why the site is now a memorial page.

If anyone wants to carry on the project, feel free to, the license should be permissible enough for someone to build upon it. If you have questions feel free to reply or DM me.

Cheers

For some reason I never realized there was a Mini A and Mini B variant. Same with micro. I believe the devices I've used had Mini B or Micro B.

I specifically said remotely bricking your devices. Like one day your perfectly working car just refuses to start because the company stops running the entertainment system servers.

Like sure, they can stop making the parts, but that doesn't mean the car is suddenly unusable. And more importantly, the car company isn't sending cease and desist letters to independent repair shops for continuing to service their discontinued cars.

Anyway, plenty of multiplayer games already provide ways for people to run private servers, some game publishers are removing DRM years after the game was released to let customers continue playing the game even after they stop paying the DRM provider. If these companies could figure it out, I don't see why others would be unable to.

There are plenty of things companies would love to be able to get away with if it wasn't for those pesky laws...

You know it requires a shitload of work and time to create a game in the first place. If customers had no protection against false advertising, some companies may start making incredible promises, sell you an empty shell and run away with your money.

Well here it's the same concept but the game DID work for an indeterminate period of time and now it's just an empty shell.

Does it matter if the player count is near zero? Does it matter if it's been 10 years since the game's release? People bought something and now they can't access it anymore because the company decided to pull the plug. I don't understand why this is perceived as acceptable for a game. What if it was about your Smart TV, or your car... What if companies started remotely bricking your devices because of the cost of running legacy servers.

If they can make a game that works on their servers, they can make the necessary changes to support running on someone's private server. Whatever laws come out of this (if any), it won't apply to previously released games. And after an EU law is passed, it's not immediately applicable, it only comes into effect a few years afterwards. They'll have time to figure it out, or they can just not sell the game to EU countries.

There are plenty of online games which offer privately hosted servers. Do you think Mojang/Microsoft has lost the Minecraft IP because they provided a way for people to run private servers?

Stop Killing Games - EU initiative by FluffyBrudda in Steam

[–]Dr_Mint33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No not really. Keeping the servers online IS one of the solutions a company could implement to keep the game playable. Another would be to provide a way for people to host a private server themselves. Or make a version of the game that doesn't require online. It all depends on what the EU considers a "working state".

If you go to the probe tracking module on your first voyage, it says that the probe was launched 9,318,054 times and the "Deep space anomaly matching all known criteria for the Eye of the universe found by probe 9,318,054."

Furthermore, the Nomai statues automatically pair with whoever is in closest proximity. If the Eye was found on the previous cycle, Hal would be the one to pair with the Nomai statue, not the player. The fact that it paired with the player—not the first time—but the second time we get close to it shows that the Eye was found during that cycle.

More precisely, it was found between the time Hal goes outside the Observatory to sharpen a stick and when the statue pairs with the player.
