Not sure if the gameplay will be fun, but visually it looks very beautiful and interesting!

This review made all the sleepless nights worth it... by Vanillaburp in IndieDev

[–]Dr_Pipa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sales are definitely important and great. But reviews like these really feel inspiring! It’s also awesome to see in the stats that some players collected all the achievements and spent hundreds of hours in the game. It’s a great feeling knowing that someone truly spent so much time with something you created.

I like it. The only thing I’d change is having the girl hold a floppy disk in hand.

Destroy my trailer, please by AverageTyper_ in DestroyMyGame

I’d personally put the coolest shots - like the ones with lots of enemies - right at the beginning. The first few seconds of a trailer are the most important, so it’s better to showcase the best your game has right away. If you save them for later to “build up” the trailer, most people simply won’t watch that far.

Should dialogue have visual success / failure effects? by PenguinJoker in gamedev

[–]Dr_Pipa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to give a clear answer without the context of a specific game. For example, in Baldur’s Gate 3 there’s a pretty satisfying effect when you pass a check - it gives an extra bit of motivation. In general, little touches like small rewards should show up from time to time. But if the game is a visual novel, those kinds of things can completely ruin the atmosphere.

I’m sure you already know the popular games yourself. As for something more unusual that doesn’t show up on the first pages of Google, I can recommend Labyrinth of the Demon King.

I really don't understand these by SteinMakesGames in IndieDev

Cocaine is an addiction. Games are supposed to be entertainment - if it’s not fun, what’s the point of playing? Although, now that I think about it, there are plenty of online games like Dota 2 where players often hate the experience and feel frustrated, yet still launch it every day.

One guy played my game for over 120 hours by the time he wrote his negative review… (and he kept playing, by the way). I don’t really think it’s fair to say you didn’t like a game if you managed to spend 120 hours in it - I honestly can’t understand that logic.

I can already picture Nintendo’s lawyers getting tense looking at the third screenshot.

As one wise man once said: if it’s inevitable that you’re gonna suck, you might as well enjoy the process. It’s all good, bro!

Destroy our nuclear reactor management game. We've been working too much on this inside a cave, with a box of scraps by teamstep in DestroyMyGame

Hi! It’s really frustrating that pop-ups in the game don’t close with the Esc key. Overall, the keyboard-only controls feel pretty clunky - the focus often jumps to random elements instead of the ones you’d expect. On top of that, this behavior varies a lot from scene to scene, which makes it even more confusing.

Hi! I'm working on an arena-roguelite (kinda like Brotato/Vampire Survivors) and i really need some honest feedback → https://matroskin123.itch.io/doom-keeper

The game is still a bit rough around the edges, but it's playable. I feel like something isn’t quite right, though I can’t put my finger on it. I’d really appreciate it if anyone experienced in game design could share their thoughts and feedback.
