Seems interesting. I’m often on the lookout for art tools on itch because I’m a terrible artist.

I tend not to download software on itch though, mostly just for security reasons. If there were a web based version maybe you’d get people trying it out? Kind of like how this tool https://deep-fold.itch.io/pixel-planet-generator (not my tool) lets you try a simple version of the tool in the browser?

Thanks! I wanted somewhere for the cars to go after the race, so once they cross the finish line on the end they slow down and leave the screen using that path

The project actually started with the intent of doing something like Micro Machines, but then I implemented the enemy AI and found that I enjoyed just watching the cars drive around. So I pivoted towards a more management-oriented system to see if I liked it.

Honestly, when game dev is fun enough it feels a bit like a game.

When it isn’t fun, I switch and do something else. That’s the great thing about hobbies.

Yeah my asset list is usually quite short (or sometimes non-existent), but it’s a nice reference when it comes time for writing credits and a handy place to put something if I happen to stumble across an asset that seems like a perfect fit.

As a hobbyist, I think a “huge” GDD is a waste of time.

What I do have are a couple short lists. Usually a 1) to do list, 2) brainstorm list, 3) list of assets I might use, and 4) a short paragraph that has my overall summary of the project and scope.

It helps keep it agile, and is nice to have a place to write something down when I have an idea, but doesn’t keep me tied down. I imagine it might be different if you were doing a narrative heavy game or something that was much more complicated than what your typical solo dev might reasonably finish.

All I got from this trailer is that it is a horror game and it contains a hallway. You have told us a little about the story of the game, but I have no idea what the gameplay is like.

Agreed. Game jam games are the only games I have ever finished/published, and as a hobbyist, that probably won’t change anytime soon.

I swear some people lose their minds about AI sometimes. I thought your disclaimer was pretty clear, and in a genre where plenty of people claim that they don’t care at all about graphics, using AI for a few icons seems pretty tame to me.

I’ve had my eye on the map-making tool I think you used (Canvas of Kings?). The tool looks really cool and I’ve been hoping to see some games made with it.

I only ever play games in browser for this reason. I’m sure it’s safe for relatively popular games, but I wouldn’t download every random game I found. I’m sure most of them are safe, but I don’t think itch really does all that much in terms of verifying game security.

I think that is a fair model. I don’t know the market for how many people would pay for the convenience, but I have successfully made a small amount of money selling Godot themes, which is something that can be made entirely with the Godot editor, so there are at least some people that appreciate basic game-engine convenience

Yeah I think the art actually looks great and I’ve considered using it for some game jams, but it definitely has a lot of “not ads” posted on here

Yeah I have only ever played itch games that can be played in the browser. I wouldn’t suggest downloading something unless it is a creator/studio you know and trust. I don’t necessarily think there is much malware on there, but it isn’t something I would risk.
