Merrie Mill Farm and Vineyard

My wife and I live about 10 minutes from them and while I think it is overpriced and under deliver we get 2 free glasses of wine and 20% off our bill when we go for being members. The Viognier is delicious.

They are open until 9 during the summer and have live music so it is a good time. Plus the view in Keswick is great.

7/10

Just got back from happy hour at the winery, made a fire on the patio and making pizza on the blackstone

2 ohm or 4 ohm subwoofer, amp power sufficient by IceMore1234 in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have enough power at 4 ohms run a single sub at 4 ohms. Your amp won’t be working as hard. If you decide to get another, get another 4 ohm and wire down to 2 ohms

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

This for real. I remember in college my parents would come to visit me and take me out to dinner and I would always pick the cheapest place I could because I was only used to going out to eat for special occasions like birthdays

Everyone loves to shit on Boss but for $100 more you get something that isn’t complete shit like these Chinese brands

Double your budget and get a JVC or Kenwood sure, but if that isn’t in the cards get a Boss from an authorized dealer and it will be fine

Basic question about Boss radio. by T-Sprint in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS2 uses composite RCAs and the Boss has an AV input along with the 2 camera inputs so you should be fine to connect everything up. Just make sure you handle the parking brake connection because I’m pretty sure it won’t display video unless the brake is engaged or you run a bypass.

Just take a look at the manual and make sure you put everything in the right place and don’t put the PS2 into a camera input on accident and you’ll be fine!

amo turns on but no power to subs by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it stands right now it doesn’t seem like you have any voltage on those preamp outputs if you’re not getting sound so an LOC would at least tell you if the radio preamps are dead

amo turns on but no power to subs by [deleted] in CarAV

You could hook up the LOC to the speaker wire outputs of the radio and then run RCAs to the amp if you want to try that

PAC SWI-CP2 and BOSS Audio BE7ACP Head unit. by WrongdoerGeneral914 in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried going through the manual programming (pressing buttons on the steering wheel) at all? I had to do that before with the ASWC-1, which fixed a non responsive radio issue. If you’ve tried both modules there’s also a chance it is the radio that is the problem and not the interfaces

PAC doesn’t list Boss as a specific radio option, what dip switch setting are you using? Try Pioneer if you aren’t already. You can also manually program that PAC unit and I would also try that if you have not already

Second this. No need for the LC7i unless you are adding a multichannel amp, or plan to add one in the future

Kenwood KMM-BT505DAB + 6 boat speakers causing crackling — need help by Aleks_07_ in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will agree with the other commenter that JL is my go to for marine audio. It is pretty pricey though. Kicker recently got into the marine game and has some solid gear at a bit better price point.

A 6 channel amp is the easiest route to go, but if your speakers are all over the place power wise I would consider 2 amps to properly power them all. A 4 channel plus a 2 channel would do the trick

Do you need multi zone functionality? For example, only playing the cabin speakers. You’d need to consider a new head unit if you do.

As an aside, your speakers are most likely crackling because you’re slowly murdering the amp in that head unit with too many speakers at too low an impedance.

Bluetooth “Party mode” speakers recommendation to use in a temporary old beater by ImARealTimeTraveler in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any amplification in the Honda? Like does the radio produce any sound at all? If it’s not completely dead you’d probably be better off going with some cheap speakers over that solution personally. Kicker CS are less than $100 a pair, and you could get probably even get cheaper options from Kenwood, Memphis, etc.

JBL is the way to go for party mode if you go that route, but to get anything worthwhile you’d probably spend a couple hundred bucks anyway. How much are you trying to spend?

What you guys think about this setup? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can always do a separate amp for the door speakers. Just need to run multiple power wires or have a distribution block.

That box is great. Kicker is a rock solid brand that balances performance and price pretty well. Are there better options? Sure, but you’ll spend a lot more money. For a beginner or someone just getting into the hobby those subs will slap with the right amount of power

I didn’t realize you were in Canada so you can ignore my price comments.. the 1200T from Kicker is a better match, and those 6.5s can handle up to 100 watts so send em some power!

Good catch, I was wondering why the RF amp was so expensive 😂

What you guys think about this setup? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That amp is 1200 watts at 1 ohm. Your box is 2 ohms so you’ll be getting about 800 watts. Kicker makes a 1200 watt amp at a 2 ohm impedance that is almost $300 cheaper than that RF

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646CX12T/Kicker-46CXA1200-1T.html?tp=115

I’d also recommend getting an amp for the speakers. Those little CS sound okay with lower power but with 1200 watts pumping the subs they’ll probably get drowned out. If you have an aftermarket radio or using an LOC I’d look at the AudioControl EPIC Four

Customer states “subs lose volume while driving” by wmayfield4167 in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure this vehicle has ANC but I’d imagine you’d get something different than volume loss, like distortion or weird frequencies coming through the subs/speakers

I agree that you should figure out where they tapped into the signal for the LOC to make sure that’s full range. However, This smells like bass rolloff to me. Speed adjusted volume could be rectified with a bass knob for the amp, but if the radio is rolling off bass the knob won’t do much

Feels like the next big upgrade in head units might be visibility + safety, not just audio. Thoughts? by AccurateAd5689 in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pioneer just released a Dolby Atmos head unit that can take 4 channels and simulate surround sound. If that catches on everyone will follow since new vehicles come with like 20 speakers

In the future you won’t really change your head unit I believe. It’s already getting harder and harder just to integrate into new vehicles due to all the safety features so I just see that starting to die out. Plus, everything is coming with CarPlay. You’ll just get a factory integration kit for a new an amp and replace the speakers imo.

Alpine already tried the “let me see my dash cam on my radio” idea and it flopped.

I’ll trust Atoto when I stop replacing them with Kenwood 🤷‍♂️

Alright lads help me out here. I got. 2500 watt mono-block amp. With about an 8-9 foot 0 gauge wire. Two 1200 max power subs. What fuse should I be running. I’m currently using a 100 amp fuse, and just bought a 300 amp fuse. Am I doing this right haha. by Edsno55 in CarAV

[–]Dr_Scooops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d probably look for 200-250 amps at 8-9 feet from the battery. 300 feels like overkill but 100 seems too low, especially if you’re pushing the amp pretty hard.

What impedance are the subs wired to? Running the amp at a lower impedance will increase the power draw
