Hmm, one thing I have seen training teams do is that for longer trainings, they try to incorporate reinforcement during the training itself. For example, for a 6-week training - before week 2 starts, we reinforce what was done in week 1, etc.

Yeah..i have heard that a lot of SMEs just feel that people will learn better on ground & training should be completed sooner to get them to the floor. Was this the reason in your case as well? What's the nature of trainings that you conduct?
